Sea of Stars Guide – Repine / Cerulean Expanse

Mission List (Tap to jump down the page!)

Repine

The Cerulean Expanse

Lost Ones Hamlet

This next area is essentially going to combine three separate sections into one. Repine is a town area, Cerulean Expanse is a much larger, open area while Lost Ones Hamlet is a very small area, punctuated by an excellent boss fight.

So in the interest of preventing you guys from cycling through three different articles, they’re all here in this one guide. Use the links above as per usual to jump down to page to where you need to go!

Repine

We begin in Repine, Serai’s home town. There’s not loads to see here to be fair, but there’s a couple of gems scattered around. On the far left of the starting area, you’ll find one just on the ground, and the same on the right too. (We’ve marked the one on the right in the picture below).

While most of the houses are your typical run-of-the-mill stuff for an RPG town, the house with pink neon coming from the doorway is definitely worth visiting. Inside is a chest holding 1x Rainbow Conch on the left. Also, there’s a merchant in here that sells some good weapons too.

There’s another 1x Rainbow Conch on the first floor behind the house with the pink neon sign too. If you head up, you should find find it quite near to the sign.

When you’re ready, head to the back of town, ascending up the stairs, and into the highest house.

When you get there, a cutscene will ensue with Serai talking to her AI companion, Cedric. We’ll also get a glimpse of the Dweller of Dread too. Afterwards, Serai will pick up a probe, and we’ll be ready to tackle the Cerulean Expanse.

The Cerulean Expanse

With the probe in hand, it’s now time to get across this desert to the other side. This large area is quite reminiscent of the Corel Desert in Final Fantasy VII, in that we need to move in specific directions to get through to the other side. And that’s where the probe comes in handy.

When you reach the desert, keep moving around until the probe begins blinking green. When it rapidly blinks green, hit the action button and a strange circular device will pop out of the sand.

Now, you’ll notice that there’s a green marker on this one. What we want to do is follow the direction it’s pointing into that specific exit. So in this first example, we want to go all the way to the right and through to the next area. You’ll need to repeat this sequence a fair few times to get out the desert. We counted 8 different sections before we reached the other side.

On top of finding these circular directional pads, there will be other instances where we unearth enemies or even find crops too. Otherwise though, this really is just one big expanse of nothingness. Keep following the direction pads and we’ll eventually come out the other side of this.

Lost Ones Hamlet

After following the path north, there will be a brief cutscene involving Serai. She’ll bemoan her luck that there’s no one here and you’ll have to go off exploring. Approach the door at the back of this area and a short cutscene will ensue.

You can talk to the strange creatures that show up if you wish, or you can head right down to the far south. A strange creature called B’st will stop you and tell you what you need to know. After some time, the front doors to the facility will open, and we can head on inside.

When you open the door, proceed to the left and open the chest, which holds 1x Walnut Cork inside. Head all the way to the right and up. En-route, there’s a random gem just on the floor so be sure to pick this up. Talk to B’st, and after listening to what he has to say, go all the way to left and rest up at the save point and camp fire.

When you’re ready, proceed through the doorway north, for a super cool boss fight.

Boss Fight – Meduso

Phase 1

Meduso is probably one of the more ingenious and creative boss fights in the game, and a personal favourite from us too! The boss has a unique strategy and some pretty brutal attacks too. There’s a fair amount of strategy that goes into this one, and as the fight progresses, things become more hectic.

Meduso’s move set is basically dictated by the different tubes that descend from the ceiling and raise up from the ground. The different coloured tubes indicate what Meduso will use next. Green indicates health regeneration, red for projectile damage.

To begin with, Meduso will only really have one or two tubes, but once four are in play, you need to be selective over which to target first. And if that wasn’t enough, they’ll only break if you destroy all the locks. All of this, while targeting Meduso’s head to whittle down damage.

For that reason, any attacks that target everything in the arena is a good choice, including the X-Strike Combo attack, Serai’s Vespertine Cannons and Moonerang. Furthermore, you’ll want to focus exclusively on any green tubes when they show up. These will regenerate Meduso’s health. And that’s a real pain when two or three tubes in quick succession regenerate a lot of health.

Phase 2

When you’ve dealt a good chunk of damage to Meduso, it’s scarred face will drop off to reveal a menacing skull. At this point, the fight will switch slightly to introduce purple and blue tubes, and with more rapid succession too. The blue tubes will deal physical drill attack damage, while the purple is a big charged attack, spewing a cloud of mist and damaging everyone.

For that reason, using Disorient during “intervals” in the fight (ie. no tubes left and Meduso on its own) is a great tactic, following it up with a big hitting attack like Sunball or even an Ultimate for Zale or Valere if there’s any going.

  Rewards:
8400 EXP

With Meduso down, we can now proceed into the chamber ahead. Go inside and watch the cutscene, and celebrate as B’st ends up with a brand new form! He’ll also join the party and we’ll know our next destination too – the Sacrosanct Spires.

In order to get there, we need to head back on the path we just came from. Leave the Cerulean Expanse on the map and proceed back through the Derelict Factory. Finally, trek down to the dock and into your ship; prepare to set sail!
