Where is Jolly Joseph now? The truth behind Netflix’s Curry & Cyanide serial killer

What was Jolly Joseph’s life like?

One of the three involved in the Koodathayi Cyanide Killings, Jolly Joseph is accused of killing her husband, her in-laws and 3 other members of her husband’s family for reasons that are unclear. After an elaborate affair with Roy Thomas, Jolly marries the Thomas family despite the disapproval of Roy’s father.

Years later, after the birth of her first child, Remo, Jolly faces issues with her mother-in-law. It is believed that the root of these problems lies in Jolly’s refusal to get a job to support the family despite her qualifications.

Later revelations from Jolly’s sister-in-law, Renji claim that Jolly lied to her in-laws about her educational qualifications which was the cause of trouble in her marital life. Soon after, Jolly’s mother-in-law, her father-in-law, husband, husband’s uncle as well as the daughter and wife of her husband’s cousin die on suspected cyanide poisoning.

Jolly Joseph’s Crimes

The alleged crimes of Jolly Joseph were investigated in late 2019, 17 years after the initial murder. Jolly’s crimes include 6 deaths in the Thomas family over the span of 14 years.

Jolly’s first alleged victim was Annamma Thomas, who died in 2002 after drinking a glass of water in Jolly’s presence. Annamma was taken to the hospital where she later died of what the doctors suspected was a heart attack.

In 2008, Tom Thomas, Annamma’s husband, passed away after consuming a mushroom capsule which he often used for anxiety and depression. It has been revealed that Jolly was present during Thomas’ death as well.

Roy Thomas, Jolly’s husband, died in 2011 due to cyanide poisoning which was found in his last consumed meal – Rice and Curry. It was revealed that Roy’s maternal uncle Mathew Manjayadil was suspicious of Jolly’s actions and had called for a post-mortem analysis of the cause of Roy’s death.

In 2014, Mathew died after Jolly allegedly gave him poisoned whisky. The 2-year-old daughter of Roy’s paternal cousin, Shaju Zachariah, also died in 2014 after “choking on food” in Jolly’s presence. In 2016, Jolly allegedly gave Sily/Cily Shaju, Shaju’s wife a similar mushroom capsule that seemingly ended her life.

Where is Jolly Joseph now?

Jolly Joseph married Shaju Zachariah, her late husband’s cousin after allegedly killing his wife, Sily/Cily Shaju in 2016. Following this, the six murders from the Thomas-Shaju family came to light from an investigation in late 2019.

Rojo Thomas, Roy’s brother complained to the police about the six unnatural deaths whose investigation all pointed towards Jolly Joseph. Jolly eventually confessed to using cyanide to kill the six which she obtained with the help of her relative/lover, M. S. Mathew and his colleague Praji Kumar, a jewellery shop employee.

Jolly and M. S. Mathew are in remand at the district prison in Kozhikode – Kerala, India.

  1. i saw the serial and am amazed at family members stupidity . Forget the fake qualifications , how come she was able to fool people on her job as lecturer in science institute when she has a commerce degree ( also fake one) – are people so clueless – even once no one visited her office or checked on her – and no after so many murders they are waking up
