Sea of Stars Guide – Abandoned Wizard’s Lab

Mission List (Tap to jump down the page!)

Green Crystal Room

Dark Blue Crystal Room

Cyan Crystal Room

Yellow Crystal Room

Red Crystal Room

White Crystal Room

When you arrive at the Wizard’s Lab, Keenathan will blast a hole inside so we can progress inside. Head through the gap and follow the linear pathway to our main hub area. After a brief bit of dialogue, follow the path to the left of the crystal and push the purple cube up, to the right and up again.

Climb up and open the chest, which holds a key item 1x Green Crystal. There’s a save point just to the left of here, alongside a campfire too which will prove to be handy for the battles ahead.

With the green crystal in your possession, progress up to the crystal and interact with the pedestal on the right, the one with a bright white light. When you do that, it’ll activate a portal just behind you leading you into one of many rooms here that we’ll need to solve puzzles through. Progress through into the next room.

Green Crystal Room

Move north from your starting position and take out the 3 new enemies that are lurking about. These guys are vulnerable to physical damage. When they’re defeated, stand on the purple platform at the back of the room.

The room layout will shift slightly but our destination will be the light blue platform you’ll see to the left of your screen.

Stand on the blue platform next and follow the highlighted platforms until you reach the other side of the room. From here, you’ll want to drop down onto the ledge sticking out and then back on the pink platform again. This will reveal a chest which happens to hold 1x Blue Crystal.

With the Blue Crystal collected, head back out this room and return to the crystal in the main hub area. Remove the green crystal and replace it with the blue one. Head back through the portal again.

Dark Blue Crystal Room

This next area has a whole bunch of holes in the group which basically teleport us around the room. You’ll notice arrows next to each of the holes, which shows which direction each will take you.

To begin with, jump in the top hole.

You’ll find yourself on the platform adjacent to this one to the north. Climb up the wall and defeat the enemies lurking about. To the far right of this area is another hole, which takes us further into the room. Jump down and immediately head north and up the ladder. There’s some more enemies here and a pathway down.

You’ll notice three blue torches and a ladder leading up. Take the ladder and hop over the platforms. We’ve circled our destination above but for now, take the stairs down and jump into the hole.

This will take us to the blue button we need to press. In doing so, a new platform will join up to the area next to the hole we just jumped down. Defeat the monsters and the button on the top right side will glow pink. Step on this and a new platform will rise on the other side of the room, followed by a handy hole just next to our location.

Jump down the pink hole, climb up the ladder in front of you and pull the lever. This will raise a new hole in the middle of the room. Climb back down the ladder and jump into the hole with an arrow pointing down.

This will return you to the first choice of two holes we had at the start of this room. Take the one on the right. At the central platform, press the pedestal and the main hub area will change, with another crystal pedestal now activated.

Jump down the hole behind you and progress back into the main area. Keep the blue crystal in its place but on the opposite site, add the green crystal. Jump into the portal.

Cyan Crystal Room

From your starting position, immediately head down the ladder and look to the left of the wooden platform sticking out. You’ll notice a chest holding 1x Rainbow Conch.

After grabbing this, return up the ladder and hop over the platforms. Push the pink cube and press the white pedestal behind it. Unfortunately, enemies will show up so be sure to dispatch these guys. Once they’re defeated, push the pink cube up and to the right so it rests against the stone tower and allows us to climb up.

Press the pedestal, defeat the new set of enemies and jump back down. From here, we want to take a south onto the wooden platform and press that pedestal too.

A new area will open up behind the waterfall with a chest. Inside happens to be 1x Red Crystal.

Now, back in the main hub area there’s a choice of different rooms we can go into, depending on colour combinations.

Purple Crystal Room

Head into the Purple Crystal Room (adding Blue and Red crystals together), and follow the linear path around. Hit the white pedestal on the left to open the way up.  Interact with the well on the right and a man there will encourage you to catch a glowing fish. This fish is easy to see and once you’ve caught it and reeled it in, you’ll collect 1x Golden Watch.

After returning it to the man in the well, a chest will appear on the left, which happens to hold 1x Mage-Knight Armor.

Yellow Crystal Room

The Yellow Crystal Room (adding green and red crystals together) is another essential area, as you’ll unlock the third crystal slot in the main hub of the Abandoned Wizard’s Lab. It’s quite a straightforward room, and requires you to basically step over a bunch of platforms to get to the other side, with some enemies to fight sprinkled in for good measure.

Simply step on the yellow button and watch the highlighted platforms closely and hop over, being sure to only touch those originally highlighted. At the end of the room, you’ll get your reward. Return to the main hub area when you’re ready and add just the Red Crystal.

Red Crystal Room

The Red Crystal Room is another optional area but it’s a handy one as we’ll gain some decent armor at the end. Our goal is to move the two purple cubes onto the highlighted areas at the back of the room.

Now, it’s worth mentioning that there are teleporters on both the far right and far left of this puzzle room. Make note of this as we’ll need it going forward! There are three cubes in total, and placing them on coloured platforms will open the barriers blocking each area. Here’s how to solve this one quickly:

  1. Move Cube A onto the blue switch.
  2. Move Cube B through the newly opened blue barrier and onto the white switch.
  3. Move Cube C (just out of shot on the right of the picture above) up and all the way to the right. It’ll teleport to the other side. Run round and push Cube C north of the opened blue barrier.
  4. Move Cube A off the blue button and all the way to the left. Teleport it round to the right and down, onto the green switch.
  5. Move Cubes B and C onto the purple marks.

The door will open at the back and you’ll be able to get your reward, which holds 1x Rainbow Conch.

White Crystal Room

From the main central hub area, with all three pedestals now active, add all the crystals in their respective slots and the portal will turn white. Don’t head in just yet though! Go and save, rest up and cook, as we’ve got a boss fight ahead. When you’re all ready to go, head into the white portal.

Boss Fight – Chromatic Apparition

The Chromatic Apparition isn’t too difficult to beat but it does have some annoying moves that can do some big damage if you’re not careful. It also uses an ability called Shapeshift which shifts its resistance and weakness. This is something we’re obviously accustomed to given our first boss fight!

Alongside standard attacks, where he’ll slam you down with a giant fist, there’s also Orb Throw, which will see the Apparition summon balls of energy and throw them at you. This occurs in waves and it can do a lot of damage if you’re not blocking in time.

Chromatic Apparition also has a big wind-up charge attack called Arcane Singularity. This will see a giant vortex that hits every party member for a decent chunk of damage. Given the locks that show up for this, and the generous 4 turn countdown, it’s a good idea to try and break these locks as quickly as possible to prevent the move from occurring. Or at least mitigate the damage!

If you’ve followed this guide into the purple room, it’s a good idea to equip the anti-mage armor too, which will certainly help with this fight!

Finally, Apparition will also summon small Crystal Tulips which will use Explode if they’re given enough time to stay in the battle arena.

Save your Moonerang and Sunball for when the Crystal Tulips appear so you can hit multiple targets, and focus on building up heavy-hitting attacks against Apparition. If you’re low on MP, using a Boosted attack skill with Zale or Valere will deal both physical and moon/sun damage too so use this to your advantage to break those locks!

This isn’t too challenging a boss though and eventually you’ll best it and take it down.

  Rewards:
Coin of Undeath Accord

With the Apparition defeated, it’s now time to head back to Brisk. Talk to the Captain at the dock and we’ll be on our way.

  1. Hey everyone, I’ve gone back in and re-watched my footage from the game just to double check all the rooms. It should now be correct. The purple room has the Mage-Knight Armor, the yellow room unlocks the third crystal slot in the main room, and the red room holds 1x Rainbow Conch.

I have also changed light blue to Cyan too. Apologies for the confusion there!

  2. Maybe it’s bugged but seems I can’t get the anti mage armor. After catching and returning the watch, all that happened was that a triangle lit up to the left and when tried to interact, it just temporarily brought me back to the crystal room but the brought me right back to purple room. No armor anywhere. Playing on a PS5. Anyone know what to do?

  3. The guy in the well opens up the third crystal option in the main room, he doesn’t give the mage set.
The yellow room has the chest with the mage set not the rainbow conch.
The red room has the rainbow conch.

Also, Blue + green = cyan, not light blue.

Not to be pedantic, just fyi 🙂

  4. The guy in the well doesn’t give you a mage armor set, but instead he unlocks the third crystal option in the main room, so you can now use all three crystals.
The yellow rooms gives the mage armor set not the rainbow conch.
The red room gives the rainbow conch.

  5. Good spot guys! I’ve just updated the guide accordingly to confirm this and modified the boss guide part to reflect this too. Really appreciate the feedback!

  6. In the purple room, interact with the well that’s there off to the right. A man will ask you to catch the glowing fish to collect his watch. Upon doing so, you’ll be rewarded with some anti-mage armor that really helps with the upcoming boss fight.

  7. In the fish pond room there is someone in the well. A fish has his watch if you get it back for him he givers you mage knight armor

  8. Hey Thyrone, thanks for commenting! I’ve just gone in and added this as a separate heading because it’s down at the end of the “Light Blue Crystal Room” mentioning how: “You can choose to go in a Purple Crystal Room if you wish (adding Blue and Red crystals together) but in all honesty, it’s just a fishing spot and there aren’t any new fish to catch so it’s advisable to skip this.”

Really appreciate you reading this guide and for your feedback.
