After defeating Barnabas, leave Eistla by going north and following the marker ahead. There is a simple side quest here called Laid to Rest if you want a slight detour, but otherwise continue on your way. You’ll soon come to another gate. Open this up and watch the cutscene that follows.
When it’s done, move forward and explore the larger area if you want. In truth, there’s not a whole lot to see save for some lovely views but there are some side quests and some Hunts around if you want to keep yourself busy. The marker ahead is around 600 yards away so either walk and fight off the enemies or grab your Chocobo and prepare for a big ride.
When you’re ready, head to the next marker, but there will be several waves of Akashic enemies to fight here.
Once they’re taken care of, go through the gate and watch another cutscene. When that’s done, move toward the marked area and watch another cutscene. Once that’s done, fast travel over to a new area – Drake’s Spine. This is the large structure in the distance glittering with lightning bolts raining down around it. When you’re ready, prepare yourself for another combat-intensive few chapters.
