Final Fantasy XVI Guide: “The Hunter and the Hunted” Walkthrough

Final Fantasy 16 Guide – Main Story Quest #16

The Hunter and the Hunted immediately picks up with you in the Kingsfall area. After a cutscene, keep pushing forward and pick up 4 Wyrrite as you go. There aren’t any side paths or deviations to worry about, so you should pick this up quite easily.

There are also a few new enemies here, including Black Widows, which are spiders with similar attack patterns to the Vampire Thorns, although these ones can lunge at you.

Eventually, you’ll come to a passageway sporting a new mini boss to handle, the Minotaur.

Mini Boss Fight – Minotaur

Tips for beating: Minotaurs are similar to the large Goblins fought toward the start of the game. These large enemies have single, slow attacks which are easy to avoid as long as you know what to watch out for.

Minotaurs will switch between a charge attack that sees them blitz across the battlefield, and a single vertical swing, which can both be dodged. Be sure to use your Garuda Eikon Abilities to knock down Minotaur’s stun bar, and at the halfway point, be sure to use Deadly Embrace, with a follow-up invoking one of the Phoenix abilities, which will do extra damage.

  Rewards:
1 Minotaur Mane 25 Sharp Fang 30 Bloody Hide
18 EXP 30 Ability Points 1250 Gil

After dealing with the Minotaur, continue on and there will be a couple more groups of enemies to deal with. One of them actually has that Minotaur from before within their ranks.

Cross over the bridge and another cutscene will ensue, as you run into more Imperial Soldiers. After dealing with them, a new boss will join the fray, accompanied by an Aevis.

Boss Fight – Knight of the Dying Sun

Tips for beating: Much like the Chirada fight from before, you want to turn your attention to one of your two enemies, and we’d recommend that being the Knight of the Dying Sun. Cid will make swift work of the dragon so you can focus on taking out the Knight.

This guy uses a similar move-set to the other Knights thus far, but he also uses Mirage Dive. Like the other jump moves, this one comes in a series of different pummels, orchestrated by blue lights on the ground.

Keep using your Eikon abilities, and eventually you’ll get the Knight down.

  Rewards:
2 Imperial Link 50 Wyrrite 55 Bloody Hide
448 EXP 120 Ability Points 2500 Gil

Back to The Hideaway

After the fight is over, watch the cutscene and then return to the Hideaway on the world map. Within this area, you’ll be prompted to visit Jill in the Infirmary, which just down the hall from Cid’s room.

After the infirmary scene, head down to the main atrium and have a chat with Charon before continuing. There are new shop and Blacksmith items here, along with a few Side Quests too.

Once you’re done with all of this, go and talk to Gav near the Hideaway exit and watch the cutscene. In doing so, you’ll be prompted to visit Three Reeds, which will whisk us over to Rosaria and finishes the quest.
