While Blown Away didn’t blow away its reality TV competitors in 2019, it did gain a fair amount of traction from audiences when this unique show dropped on the streaming platform. With many people asking for a follow-up, Netflix deliver more of the same for a second season that takes everything that made the first season great and repeats the same format.

Well, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. With a couple of familiar faces popping up along the way, 10 competitors compete for the life-changing prize of $60,000. There’s also a lucrative residency at the Corning Museum of Glass too so there’s lots to play for.

For those unaware, the format here is split across 10 episodes, each clocking in at around 30 minutes or so. Along the way, there are ten timed challenges that test competitors and push them to their glass-blowing limits.

Along the way we see the competitors molding, sculpting and blowing their way to victory, designing and creating beautiful and artistic glass show-pieces for the judges to assess. Of course, along the way we also learn more about our 10 competitors too including their backstories and what they’re doing all of this for.

One of the big criticisms many people had with the first season was the overall winner. Well it’s fair to say the same will probably be said here too, and personally I feel like the wrong person was selected again.

I won’t go into specifics but given this is a competition about glass-blowing, this final reveal will undoubtedly be a  hot topic for many people.

Thankfully, the competitors we meet along the way have big, bubbly personalities and bring a different mentality to the field. Whether it be representing minorities, standing up for women’s rights or shining the spotlight on mental health, each of the competitors have a unique take on life and understanding more about them along the way is part of the fun.

Season 2 of Blown Away is pretty much more of the same and that goes right down to the final winner too. It won’t be for everyone, and the winner will be a huge point of contention for many people, but the ride to get there is certainly enjoyable enough to recommend.

  1. I found it very disconcerting that the judges continued to give “Chris” a pass, when he repeatedly failed to both meet the challenge, and do something that was even close to the level of some of the others. It’s 1 thing if they did this “once”, but it was clear that this happened more than once, I counted 3 times going into the final 3!
