The Girl I Like and I Saw A Confession Together

Episode 8 of The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses begins with Komura bumping into Mie on a rainy day before school. Mie accidentally gets her socks wet and asks Komura to look the other way when they’re in school so she can change them. Komura stares at the rain outside to pretend that he’s not thinking about what Mie looks like without socks on.

The next day, Komura spots Mie in the park alone. She tells Komura she forgot her keys, so she’s waiting for her mother to arrive to take her home. After spending time with Mie in the park, we cut to the two moving their desks around at school. Komura drops his Apple store card. Mie picks it up for him. He explains what it is to her and hopes she doesn’t know anything about social media games since he’s known for spending money on microtransactions. Thankfully, she’s unaware of them.

Thereafter, Mie accidentally calls Komura at night. She attempted to call Asuka because she was spending the night at her place and got lost during her venture to the washroom because it was dark. Despite having minor complications with his mother, Komura guides Mie to her destination over the phone. After some pool shenanigans, we see Komura leaving the store and vowing to spend little money on games. He catches Mie snacking outside and joins her. Komura notices Mie has a winning dessert and urges her not to throw it out. Mie hands it to Komura and departs.

Komura walks behind the school and notices a girl confessing her feelings to Azuma. He hides behind the tree, and a cat accompanies him. Komura’s worried the cat will give away his location. Suddenly, Mie arrives and starts acting like a feline. She notices Azuma and the girl behind the school but pays them no mind when the cat goes near her. Komura wonders if she’s oblivious to romantic situations and if he’ll ever have the courage to confess his feelings to Mie.

The cat heads toward Komura, enticing Mie to follow it. Komura grabs Mie before the girl, and Azuma realizes she’s in the area. The girl confesses to Azuma, but he denies her because he likes someone else. Mie asks Komura if she was going to get in their way, making Komura realize she understands romance.

The episode closes with Mie telling Komura she saw a cat roaming the school grounds.

The Episode Review

Despite having some joyful scenarios, The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses continues placing our characters in random scenarios that don’t hold meaning. Sometimes, it feels like the series is trying to capture the same magic The Dangers In My Heart did during its airing. Many of the situations placed in this chapter and previous ones feel nearly identical to the ones Yamada and Kyotaro found themselves in. Unfortunately, they were better executed in that anime in comparison to this one. 

Nonetheless, there were a few moments in The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses’ eighth episode that was heartwarming. For example, the moment when Komura sang the school’s song to Mie will bring fans immense joy and satisfaction. Considering our characters’ ages, it’d make sense for Mie to feel frightened by Asuka’s dark home, especially after watching a horrifying movie with her. It’s situations like these that prevent the show from feeling like a slog to watch. 

Overall, this was a fine chapter of the anime. While its execution isn’t the best, it contained some joyous moments that will surely leave a decent impression on viewers. It appears our cast will be attending a field trip in next week’s chapter. Hopefully, we’ll receive some incredible intimate situations between Komura and Mie.
