Has Last Light been renewed for Season 2? Here’s What We Know:

Renewed Or Cancelled?

Peacock’s streaming service has come with tempting offerings in the recent past. The Resort instantly comes to mind as an interesting one. But overall, the network is quite adamant to pick up the pace to compete. Last Light was released almost a week back for streaming. Matthew Fox of Lost fame, stars as the main man, back from retirement, in this apocalypse genre series with a social twist. All five episodes were released at once and ran for about forty minutes each. Not too difficult to binge, eh? Well, if you have completed it, you’re in the right place. A natural thought if you liked something (which is admittedly difficult in Last Light’s case) is whether or not the show has been renewed for another season. Here’s what we know:

What is Last Light about?

Andy (Fox) has an important personal event coming up. His son, who is bereft of vision, finally has a chance to see the world for the first time, if the upcoming surgery in Paris goes well. Three days before the surgery, he is called away all of a sudden in the dark of the night by his employer, Lizrah Pil & Energy with a crisis. Something is not right with the oil. As it turns out, the problem is worldwide and is swiftly escalating. Only a handful of people in the world can find a solution and Andy is special for a very specific reason. All of the world’s resources and infrastructure are under attack by a rogue organization. The world faces a tall test of time, as it looks for some hope in the face of devastation and doom.

Has Last Light been renewed for season 2?

At the time of writing, Last Light has NOT been renewed for a second season.

Fans were optimistic that despite having the billing of a limited series, Peacock will renew it for season 2. Fox has an obsessive fan following and seeing him again would have been a tempting idea. Moreover, what supports the cause for season 2 is that the book on which the series is based also has a sequel. British author Alex Scarrow wrote in the aftermath of the world shutting down in Afterlight.

Such renewals often come in the face of positive response and viewership numbers, none of which have transpired. The response from the film community at large, including us, has been overwhelmingly negative. Season 1 was laggard in conception and execution, leaving little room for anything meaningful to come out of the story.

What we know about season 2 so far:

It should probably be taken to be carving on the stone that the show will not be renewed. No significant interests are served by going ahead with it. Although the story would be quite interesting and challenging at the same time, if the same people are behind the project then God bear us strength to complete the next season. The aftermath of any crisis carries an inherent element of suspense and intrigue but given how the finale ended with a two-minute montage and voiceover of Andy explaining how the world endured without giving us the specifics, there are no plans, yet.

We will keep you posted if the unlikeliest happens, but do not keep your hopes up.

  1. Read the book, it’s much much better that the tv series. Very applicable to today’s events happening in the middle east. There was no oil destroying bug thing in the book, the dad was a new Zealander and the son wasn’t blind. The series was all about human caused climate change but the book is about a family’s survival in UK after events which we are now living through happen. It’s about what happens when peak oil occurs!

  2. Enjoyed all the episodes and would love to see it continue. Bring on a second season. Matthew Fox is still a fox 🦊

  3. I would like to see the show finished in a part 2 of season 1 or season 2.
It will be very frustrating if its not finished.

  4. I enjoy all five episodes I would to see a 2nd season why start something and don’t finished it leave people not know what the end gone to be something I’m so tired of this you put a good tv show on and then stop it then their no more season come can uses please not do that

  5. I Hate when a show is good and has only one season. It drives me crazy. It makes me so sad that I started watching knowing I will never know the out come.

  6. I love this show and I want more ..I thought the acting was terrific it was exciting so it should be renewed.

  7. Seriously? This series is one hell of a good show! I was on the edge of my seat almost the ENTIRE TIME! I hate when networks start an awesome series and then just stop & leave you hanging! Season 2, in my opinion, is an absolute MUST!

  8. I was very interested to watch this show, to the point of even signing up to Stan (currently not signed up) but if I am going to be left hanging after only 5 episodes, maybe I won’t bother.
    Just not worth it.

  9. Really you’re just gonna leave us hanging like that. At least finish it one way or the other. Even if everybody dies. That would be the way you should finish it. That’s what ridiculous that you leave us right in the middle of it. If I known you were gonna do that. I’ve never spent the time watching it. What a waste of time. Finished the damn series

  10. This sucks! I’m not naysayer, but I enjoyed the series. I am a huge fan of Matthew Fox. I would love to see a season 2, if for nothing else, to see who comes out on top of this apocolyptic show.

  11. I don’t understand the negativity in this article. I enjoyed Last Light very much and would be very happy to watch a season 2 and beyond!!
