Has Last Chance U: Basketball been renewed for Season 3? Here’s what we know:

Renewed Or Cancelled?

Last Chance U: Basketball is the latest sport docu-series on Netflix. With exclusive access behind the scenes and in the locker rooms for these youths, the show is dramatic, nail-biting and absolutely gripping. After finishing all 8 episodes, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Here’s what we know:

What is Last Chance U: Basketball Season 2 about?

The first season did an excellent job keeping the usual Last Chance U vibes going but unfortunately was cut short due to a certain worldwide pandemic. Season 2 however, returns with a bang as Coach John Mosley returns with a brand new batch of youngsters, intent on putting them through the ringer and winning the State Championship. With fly on the wall cameras and 8 episodes clocking in at a little over an hour each, Last Chance U captures every up and down these kids face along the way.

Unlike the first season, things here feel much closer to the desperate hope seen in something like Sunderland Til I Die, with the team struggling to find an identity and click together. The losses are trickling in, complacency is ready to strike at any moment and John starts doubting himself. Everything looks set to implode like never before.

The second half of the season does change in tone and feel but that underlying layer of tension is rife all the way through every single game, which are beautifully shot and edited together.

Has Last Chance U: Basketball been renewed for season 3?

At the time of writing, Last Chance U: Basketball  has not been renewed for a third season. Given the nature of the show’s content, that could well change if it does good numbers for Netflix.

Generally Netflix gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly (ala. Squid Game, Bridgerton & Irregulars) Other times, it can take months before Netflix make a decision over a show’s future.

So far, Last Chance U: Basketball has had a really good reaction from audiences and critics alike, with most commenting on how engrossing and well edited this series this.

Given the way this show is set up, there’s definitely potential for a sequel, even if John Mosley himself hinted that there wouldn’t be in his final interviews within the show. There’s a lot of scope to follow the new crop of kids coming through at ELAC (East Los Angeles College) or even changing tact to focus on a different college team.

We’re going out on a limb and predicting that this will be renewed for a third season and that it’s only a matter of time before we get that confirmation.

We’ll be sure to update this section with accurate details over the coming weeks and months when we know more!

What we know about season 3 so far:

Barely anything is known about season 3 at this point, given Netflix have not green-lit a sequel. However, we could see the enigmatic John Mosley back to coach a new crop of kids, or even a completely different focus on a new team and crop of kids coming through. Of course, all of this is dependent on how the viewing figures are for Netflix, so we may have to wait and see.

As mentioned above, we predict that this will be renewed but we could be completely wrong! We’ll be sure to update this page in the future when more information is known though!

  1. John Mosley for PRESIDENT!!!!
This is by far the BEST series on Netflix!!! I have watched both seasons at least 10 times . PLEASE! PLEASE !PLEASE ! Bring us SEASON 3 @ ELAC 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Give us Season 3, Netflix!
Although I’m assuming we would have heard something by now.

  3. I’m done w Netflix if they don’t do a season 3, Coach John is an inspiration to many that can’t get to East LA and love watching him on tv.

  4. I am now an ELAC fan and the end of the last two seasons has brought tears to my eyes. I want to be there with ELAC when they win the championship!

    Bring on season 3 🏆

  5. I would be heartbroken to see a real show with real loves being affected and developed in real time not see a season three when most “reality” TV is so demoralizing. This show is absolutely life-affirming and I’m so proud of those kids and coaches who come from nothing, succeed and fail and get back up again. I think if they hadn’t been robbed Season 1, the show would’ve had more traction and momentum

  6. This show has to come back for its 3rd season. It’s to intense, and with the returning players it will definitely live up.

  7. Please bring season 3 with John Mosley! He is an inspiration to me. I want to watch the return players to who he has devoted so much. Such a moving and awesome series!

  8. Such an engrossing series, both seasons! I hope they keep the school and focus the same, as John Mosley is the inspiring lead “character” who glues it all together. Quick point: wouldn’t they have to be already filming season 3, given that basketball season is well underway? If so, you would think it’s a lock they would want to put out a third season. Maybe even flip back and forth with Rob Robinson’s team – that would be crazy good.

  9. Love Last Chance U:Basketball. Love the realness of it. Mosely really cares about those boys!! I reallly hope there is a season 3. Love seeing he progression and growth of these students.

  10. Love Last Chance U Basketball! Watched Season 1 four times and Season 2 twice in the first week of its release. Hopefully it will be renewed. It’s the best thing on Netflix!
