MF Ghost – Season 1 Episode 8 Recap & Review

The Voice Callout

MF Ghost Episode 8 begins with the last section of the race. Kanata cruises down Sector 3 and surprises everyone with his incredible tire grip this late in the race.

Soon, Kanata catches up with Kakeru and Nozomi. Before they can come up with a plan, he overtakes Nozomi. However, Kanata finds himself stuck between the two siblings, but he makes a swift move and overtakes Kakeru as well, leaving everyone awestruck by this move.

Meanwhile, Kyouko questions Ren if she has ever been in a relationship and is surprised to learn she hasn’t. Kyouko offers her relationship advice, and Ren happily receives it.

As for Kanata, he cuts corners to gain time and catches up with Emile. They enter the death zone, and Kanata relies on Ogata’s data to calculate Emile’s position and goes for the overtake. Kakeru is surprised and enraged by Kanata’s performance.

Kanata now heads for Taylor’s Porsche. The two go head to head for a distance, but due to the low visibility in the fog, Taylor finds it too risky to battle and lets Kanata surpass him. Ogata and the commentators are baffled by Kanata’s performance, but the audience is thrilled by the results at the end of MF Ghost Episode 8.

The Episode Review

MF Ghost Episode 8 clarifies why they prolonged the race, offering a very realistic justification. Kanata strategically preserves his tires for the final portion of the race and unleashes his full potential in this episode. His conserved tire grip allows him to make moves that other cars simply cannot manage due to wear and tear.

The animations depicting the drifts and the intricacies of the cars are spot-on, capturing the intensity, gravity, and thrill of an overtake. It stays true to a driver’s perspective, especially when Kanata overtakes Taylor. Taylor wisely backs off, considering the circumstances, intending not to risk his life in the situation.
