MF Ghost – Season 1 Episode 9 Recap & Review

The 300 kph Dogfight

MF Ghost Episode 9 begins with clips of the demo run by the winner of the last few MFG tournaments, and people draw similarities between Kanata’s trial round and the demo run. They notice that he has adapted to his own style in the race.

The race continues, and Kanata tells Ogata that he won’t need the voice countdown anymore. Michael maintains the first position while Fuujin follows him right behind. Behind them, Aiba struggles to maintain his position against Sakamoto and Akaba.

Aiba, Sakamoto, and Akaba engage in a fight. Akaba takes the right lane instead. As they converge, Akaba emerges in front of Sakamoto, forcing him to back off. Meanwhile, Cars 6 and 7 battle it out for the 7th position. Kanata gets left behind due to the lack of engine power. Jackson plans to overtake Kanata on the long straight.

Aiba, Akaba, and Sakamoto enter the long straight, and Akaba overtakes Aiba. Aiba enters a slipstream. Sakamoto takes the opportunity to pull ahead alongside Aiba. The racers battle at a speed of 300 kph. Aiba also pulls ahead, bringing all three drivers parallel before the braking point.

Out of desperation for Number 7’s kiss, Aiba drives far too aggressively for his tire grip capacity and ends up in a devastating overshoot. He gets back into the race but is surpassed by Otani.

Meanwhile, Michael and Ishigami complete the race in positions 1 and 2 respectively. Akaba and Sakamoto follow in positions 3 and 4 respectively, followed by Otani and Aiba in positions 5 and 6 respectively. Oshi and Yanagida follow in positions 7 and 8 respectively.

Jackson attempts to overtake Kanata on the long straight and successfully does so. However, Kanata enters the slipstream after clipping Jackson’s rear. Jackson hits the brakes for the braking point, allowing Kanata to pull ahead of him. Kanata deliberately hits the brakes late, allowing him to overtake and finish in 9th position.

Later at the podium ceremony, Kanata questions Aiba why Michael isn’t on the podium, and Aiba explains it’s his pride. Jackson appreciates Kanata’s driving. Following that, Nozomi also wishes him and forcibly hugs him, upsetting Ren.

Following the celebration, Aiba invites Kanata and Ogata to a party to celebrate the day at the end of MF Ghost Episode 9.

The Episode Review

MF Ghost Episode 9 brings us to a pit stop with the end of the race and also hints at future races, building anticipation. Unfortunately, Kanata finished the race in 9th place, but at the same time, he has also won a good deal of money. This allows him to overcome his biggest shortcoming, but the question is, will Kanata use the money to upgrade his car in the next race?

With only 3 episodes remaining to finish this season, will the next race happen within the season, or will they dedicate it to Kanata’s search for his father? Notably, it seems like his father has something to do with the MFG, and it can lead to a surprising revelation. With all this being said, the anime has kept things extremely intriguing while delivering insanely explosive races, and I can’t wait to watch more.
