Konosuba: God’s Blessing On This Wonderful World – Season 3 Episode 4 Recap & Review

Divine Punishment for This Handsome Gentleman Thief

Episode 4 of Konosuba: God’s Blessing On This Wonderful World Season 3 starts with Kazuma and his friends chatting with Alderp inside his mansion. Alderp says he’s not happy about being a suspect. Also, he isn’t thrilled that he must house Kazuma, Aqua, and Megumin. However, he’s happy that Darkness will be staying at his mansion.

Later, Kazuma ventures through Alderp’s mansion and spots Alderp admiring himself in a room. Kazuma looks at the same mirror and learns it’s a magic mirror that allows Alderp to peer into the girl’s bathhouse. Kazuma realizes Alderp wanted to use the mirror to look at Darkness while she bathes. He tells Alderp that he has no intentions of joining him, yet, Kazuma tells Alderp to leave so he can use this room.

Kazuma says he wants to prevent people like Alderp from spying on his friends. Alderp’s not buying it so Kazuma tells Alderp if he doesn’t leave he’ll inform the entire maid staff of his corrupt ways. Before Alderp entices Kazuma with a deal, Darkness arrives and breaks the magic mirror. Three days pass. Kazuma and Megumin discuss the noble thief’s whereabouts at the dinner table.

Kazuma brings up Megumin’s concerns for him while he is away with Iris to throw Megumin off course. After the two bicker over the matter, Megumin insists Kazuma join her on a date later. Megumin casts an explosion nearby and plummets to the ground. Kazuma’s frustrated that this is the “date” Megumin wanted to embark on.

While Megumin and Kazuma visit multiple explosion-worthy locations, Aqua and Darkness interact with Alderp’s maids at his mansion. Later, Megumin shares heroic stories to Alderp and his maids. Kazuma’s there too and asks Alderp’s maids for assistance with things. Meanwhile, Alderp asks Darkness if he and his friends can leave soon.

Later, Kazuma ventures through the mansion in search of a snack and says he and the others must depart tomorrow. Then, Kazuma notices the thief and uses his spy-like skills to capture them. The thief recognizes Kazuma’s voice and Kazuma recognizes her. Kazuma learns it’s Eris (Chris). Chris doesn’t want Kazuma telling Darkness about what she’s doing despite her righteous intentions.

The two overhear a few guards and hide somewhere. Chris wants to update Kazuma on everything, but Kazuma insists Chris leave the residence. Chris uses a binding spell on Kazuma to make it look like he encountered and lost against the thief. She performs the spell on him and departs. Suddenly, Aqua, Darkness, and Megumin arrive.

Kazuma shares a falsified tale with them concerning his experience with the thief. Then, Aqua shares tales with Kazuma about things she did to his belongings and his room while he was away with Iris. Darkness and Megumin take advantage of Kazuma while he’s stuck in this helpless situation. Simultaneously, Alderp and his men observe the girls toying with Kazuma.

Kazuma and his friends return to Iris’s kingdom in the morning to relay their experience with the thief. Although Kazuma and his party failed, Iris praises Kazuma for successfully defending Alderp’s territory. Nonetheless, Claire sends Kazuma and his friends off. Later, Kazuma and Aqua visit a place that offers booze. The two bicker briefly until Mitsurugi arrives.

The three joke about not remembering who Mitsurugi is. Next, the three sit at a table and Mitsurugi hands Aqua a ring that doesn’t fit her finger. This entices Mitsurugi to purchase three bottles of alcohol. Later, Chris arrives in Kazuma’s room and startles him. Chris tells Kazuma she’s been collecting rare items called the Divine Treasures. She says these items hold different effects, deal incredible damage, and bring substantial wealth.

Kazuma ponders Chris’s words and realizes she stole his moneymaking mallet. Chris apologizes and says the Divine Treasures like the moneymaking mallet are dangerous. Moreover, Chris tells Kazuma that Alderp has one of the Divine Treasures. She wants Kazuma to help her obtain it. Kazuma refuses and Chris says she’ll return to his place tomorrow. Chris hopes Kazuma will reconsider his stance and help her.

After Chris departs, Kazuma tries sleeping. However, the capital’s Devil King Army alert goes off and asks all high-level adventurers to assist with the dilemma. Darkness arrives at Kazuma’s door and urges him to respond to the alert. Kazuma tells Darkness to let the high-level warriors handle the problem. Baffled, Darkness leaves Kazuma alone and plans to take Megumin and Aqua with her.

Kazuma rests in bed and Darkness forces Aqua and Megumin to assist her. Aqua’s not thrilled about the idea but Megumin’s excited. Megumin wants to confront the Devil King’s forces alone. Darkness stops Megumin and begs Kazuma to assist her. Kazuma yells at the girls and tells them to let the other adventurers handle things. Then, Kazuma has an epiphany.

If Kazuma can perform well against the Devil King’s forces, he argues he might have a shot at returning to the castle. Kazuma rallies the girls together and the episode closes with the four heading toward Iris and her army.

The Episode Review

This episode of Konsuba: God’s Blessing On This Wonderful World evokes similar laughs and intrigue as previous chapters. It gives audiences several funny gags of the nefarious and colorful spectrum that they’ll adore or despise. From Kazuma and Alderp’s magic mirror shenanigans to Darkness and Megumin torturing Kazuma while he’s bound via a spell, not every joke will resonate with audiences.

However, those that do, will certainly bring a smile to multiple fans’ faces. As with previous episodes, fans will cherish seeing more supporting characters receive screen time this season. Based on this chapter’s events, we’re thrilled Chris will have a sufficient role this season. Simultaneously, it’s nice that the series touched upon the whole moneymaking mallet debacle as many wondered when Kazuma or the others would learn Chris swiped it from him.

Regardless, this episode presents audiences with new world developments regarding the Divine Treasures. Although this series is of the joke variety, we’re excited to see what other Divine Treasures are lurking in this fantasy world. Simultaneously, we’re anticipating these treasures will have a crucial role to play considering Chris’s remarks about them.

All in all, episode 4 offers more of the same humor and sequences as previous Konosuba episodes, which isn’t a terrible thing. Regardless, we’re optimistic that this season will introduce more fascinating elements that’ll help it stand apart from previous installments.
