Jujutsu Kaisen – Season 2 Episode 11 Recap & Review

Seance

Episode 11 of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 begins with Yuji trying to use his physical strength to open the curtain but that doesn’t work. Ino and Megumi discuss the reasons why. They come to the conclusion that they’ll need to open a pathway through the curtain’s foundation which should be located in a conspicuous place. Yuji and the others turn their attention to the Shibuya Watch Tower as we see Ogami, Awasaka, and Ogami’s grandson discuss things concerning the curtain.

Yuji and the others find Ogami and her allies and fight them. We receive a flashback of Ino, Yuji, and Megumi finding an artifact related to the curtain’s foundation. Megumi suggests they destroy the artifact and deal with the curse users who set up the barrier later.

In the present, Ino realizes there are three artifacts at play and wonders where the other two could be. Ino notices Awasaka holds one of the artifacts as he plans to fight Ogami and her grandson.

Yuji and Megumi fight Awasaka. In a flashback, Ino explains why he wants Nanami’s recognition before becoming an official Grade 1 Sorcerer.  Ino fights Ogami and her grandson while Yuji and Megumi combat Awasaka. Megumi and Yuji are irritated that none of their attacks are working against him. As Ino is fighting Ogami and her grandson, her grandson consumes a strange vial, turning him halfway into Toji Zenin. We cut to the year 1989, in which Satoru was born.

Meanwhile, we receive background details about Ogami and Awasaka’s ties to Satoru pertaining to a bounty that was placed on Satoru’s head. However, Satoru’s mere presence sent shivers down Ogami and Awasaka’s spine. Megumi tries persuading Awasaka to tell the others to cancel the barrier. Awasaka refuses to let them help Satoryu escape after the fear he caused them and other cursed users over the years. After pondering for a moment, Megumi distracts Awasaka with rabbits.

Megumi tells Yuji they should retreat for the time being as he’s seen through Awasaka’s technique. Meanwhile, Ino realizes Ogami’s a necromancer and uses a Seance technique to allow her grandson to shapeshift into Toji. Her grandson delivers several devastating blows to Ino as we transition to Yuji and Megumi continuing their assault on Awasaka. Megumi discovers that Awasaka is using an “Inverse” technique.

The episode closes with Yuji knocking Awasaka out.

The Episode Review

Jujutsu Kaisen episode 11 provides viewers with an action-centric chapter with a hint of depth and characterization. Many viewers will appreciate the small increments of background info we received for Ogami and Awasaka as it helps them feel more fleshed out. Also, it helps the characters avoid feeling bland and uninteresting. That said, this episode further proves why Satoru is a fearsome sorcerer.

Even at a young age, he was sending shivers down well-trained cursed spirits’ spines. It’ll make viewers question if there truly is an evil entity that’ll instill fear in Satoru as much as he does in Curses and enemies. At the same time, Megumi and Yuji’s chemistry remains solid and fun to observe. It was nice seeing them conjure up a strategy before participating in another battle with Awasaka.

While the episode utilized flashbacks effectively, there were certain moments where the flashbacks interrupted scenes. For example, the staff could’ve shown viewers Megumi and Yuji plotting their victory over Awasaka in real-time instead of cutting to them doing so toward the end of their battle with him. It would’ve made the battle flow better.

Other than that, this was another enjoyable episode of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2. I’m looking forward to seeing if Ino can figure out a way to defeat Ogami and her grandson.
