Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 261 Recap & Review

Inhuman Makyo Shinjuku Showdown, Part 33

Chapter 261 of Jujutsu Kaisen begins where we left off in chapter 260 with Yuji hitting Sukuna with a Black Flash thanks to Todo’s support. Then, Sukuna notices Satoru on the battlefield and learns Yuta took over Satoru’s body using Kenjaku’s Cursed Technique. We enter a flashback featuring Kusakabe, Hakuri, Panda, and others.

They discuss the possibility of Rika copying Kenjaku’s brain-transplanting Cursed Technique and how Yuta will use this ability to control Satoru’s corpse. Mei Mei proposes several possibilities of what’ll occur to Yuta if Yuta proceeds with this Satoru corpse-controlling debacle. Yuta says he’ll do anything to end Sukuna’s existence and makes bold statements to support his stance.

In a new flashback, we see Yuta explaining his body-control plan to Satoru. Satoru says he doesn’t mind and the two delve into a discussion about their descendants. Yuta tells Satoru that he comes from the Fujiwara bloodline despite Satoru telling him he heired from the Sugawara family. Nonetheless, Satoru tells Yuta that they’re distant relatives.

Satoru tells his students to leave him alone. Next, he says if he or other sorcerers lose to Sukuna then Yoshinobu would be at the top of the Jujutsu HQ. Yuta confronts Satoru and tells him not to become a monster again. Then, we transition to a scenario involving Amai discussing his sugar Cursed Technique with Shoko.

Then, we transition to another scene involving Yuta and Shoko. We learn Sukuna cut Yuta’s body in half but fortunately, Arata used his Cursed Technique to prevent Yuta’s wounds from worsening. Shoko and Yuta discuss Yuta’s plans. We learn Shoko stitched up Satoru’s corpse. Yuta used Kenjaku’s technique to enter Satoru’s body.

Shoko tells Yuta to use his Cursed Technique to restore Satoru’s body. Then, Shoko tells Amai to assist Yuta in completing the process. Then, we return to the present battle between Yuta (in Satoru’s body) and Sukuna. The chapter ends with Yuta unleashing Unlimited Void while Sukuna combats this with Malevolent Shrine.

The Chapter Review

And with that, Jujutsu Kaisen leaves fans on a cliffhanger to speculate about. Unfortunately, this series will be on break, unlike other series that release on Sundays. Nevertheless, this will give fans time to sit with this spooky yet interesting Yuta development.

Firstly, it’s nice seeing a heroic character utilize a nefarious method to combat an evildoer. Typically, shonen heroes use heroic methods to silence their series’s antagonists. This voodoo-like tactic spices matters up and gives Satoru fans a bone. At the same time, it’s likely Satoru won’t be getting revived anytime soon.

Moreover, it’s great that Gege Akutami stuck close to this chest and chose not to revive Satoru. While Satoru’s death and future events have grown stale, we’re optimistic this Yuta vs. Sukuna fight will usher in great results.

Overall, this was a decent chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen. Although it’d be in Akutami’s interest to end this arc swiftly, we’re hopeful he will make the right decisions to avoid future matters feeling rushed or unenthusiastic.
