Goodbye Earth – K-drama Episode 2 Recap & Review

Love is Back

Goodbye Earth episode 2 starts with Se-kyung sleeping at home. She sleep-walks to get coffee at her fiance’s house, and So-min calmly reminds her the apartment is empty. So-min also tells her about Bae Jong-su’s death. Se-kyung spends the day thinking about the previous night.

The news of Bae-jong-su hits the media, and most people, including a blogger, celebrate his death. They feel it is divine punishment after what he did to the children. Even the kids are happy Jong-su is dead. Ha-yool is sick of the criminals and wishes she could take them out. On the other hand, Jin-seo is looking to sell some videos to earn money to pay rent. He tries to sell a few videos to a gang, and they ask him to bring So-mi to them.

At the military camp, In-ah grows suspicious about Jong-su’s death. It was ruled as a suicide, but it was actually a homicide. She heads to the scene to investigate and finds boot prints in and out the house.

At the same time, Soo-geun learns why his entry to the US was cancelled. According to reports, he violated the Children and Youth Protection Act, and as such, he is eligible to migrate to America. Of course, he causes drama at the office before leaving.

OutsdIe Se-kyung’s office, Jin-seo’s dad, continues preaching about eternal life. Se-kyung finds Jin-seo and asks him to go home. In a flashback, Se-kyung recalls her good days as a teacher and her beautiful relationship with the children. She even showed them her butterfly tattoos.

Later, Se-kyung works with another lady to plan how the underground train station can be turned into a bunker. Their conversation is interrupted by In-ah. She is there to ask if Se-kyung killed Jong-su. Se-kyung quickly denies it and says everyone had a grudge against Jong-su. In a flashback, we learn that Se-kyung, Yoon-sang, Father Sung-jae and In-ah are good childhood friends.

We also see how Yoon-sang and Se-kyung kept their relationship alive through video calls. They planned their wedding and were excited to have Father Baek officiate it. Se-kyung was also enthusiastic about the football group she started with the kids. Unfortunately, a few hours later, things abruptly changed with the news of an impending asteroid attack. Everything changed so quickly, and everyone tried to wrap their minds around their imminent death.

Some people gave up and willingly waited for the end. The military tried to get enough resources to survive, and some did whatever it took to have a better chance of survival. Some turned to religion, others, like Jin Seo’s dad, turned to propaganda, and some, like Soldier Hyeon-sik, continued to be jerks. Of course, for some (like Mi-ryeong) their world had already ended when their loved ones died.

Meanwhile, Soo-geun and Dae-han try to find a new way to escape the country. They meet with a broker who runs the Toittech company. The man promises them a chance to leave and survive the disaster. Although Soo-geum is doubtful, he is charmed and sees hope in this scam operation.

While her dad is looking for a way out of the country, Ha-yool hangs out with her friends. They all complain about their dads. In a flashback, we learn that Ha-yool is angry with her dad because the school bullies showed her a video of him paying for sex with a sex worker. Since then, Ha-yool has been rebelling against her dad.

Elsewhere, In-ah and Hyun-Jae help the people on a shuttle that broke on the road. Among them is Father Sung-jae, who tries to tease her, but she warns him off. As they leave, they fail to see Yoon-sang, who has finally returned. He only has a simple document to prove his identity, so the soldiers take him in for further investigation. The JIU verifies his identity but asks him to check in daily and give him a phone. He is also on their watchlist, as they can’t understand why he wants to return.

At the church, Sister Chae-hwan tries to break into Father Baek’s office with the blogger’s help. Unfortunately, they fail as Father Sung-jae and In-ah arrive, forcing them to postpone their agenda.

As night draws by, Se-kyung starts to suspect she is being followed. She runs into Jin-seo, who says that So-min is worried about Se-kyung. It turns out that Se-kyung was right; Jong-su’s men are watching her and plotting their revenge. In the background, the vlogger explains why the children were kidnapped.

Upon getting home, Se-kyung goes through Jong-su’s phone, trying to figure out how the gang works. She also has his gun and some stuff she took from his house. As she works on this, there is a knock on the door. Initially, she hesitates to open it until she hears Yoon-sang’s voice. The two warmly embrace each other.

The Episode Review

It is a bit suspicious how Yoon-sang could return, but that is not important right now. He is finally back and will help Se-kyung. She is in big trouble and can use all the help she can get. In-ah already thinks she killed Jong-su, and Jong-su’s men also share the same opinion. It makes us wonder when they will strike and how they will execute their revenge. With Yoon-sang back, will he be part of the gang’s revenge against Se-kyung? We are also curious about the deals he made to return and how these will affect the couple.

It broke our hearts when Jin-seo said he wouldn’t have a chance to be an adult. There is so much the children will miss out on as the world ends in less than 200 days. They have already been forced to grow up, so first. Some have been forced to do odd jobs like Jin-seo to earn a living, as his dad is too preoccupied to provide.
