Final Fantasy XVI Guide: “Into the Darkness” Walkthrough

Final Fantasy 16 Guide – Main Story Quest #43

Once you reach Drake’s Fang, Into the Darkness starts right away. This is another big, combat-heavy chapter so prepare yourself and be ready for some epic fights along the way. Almost immediately, you’ll run into some enemy orcs. Defeat these and crawl through the opening. On the other side, you’ll have even more orcs to contend with.

As you go through the door, more enemies await. Once they’re dealt with, press on and through the next set of doors, where yet more enemies are waiting for you. Once they’re defeated, go up the stairs and through the next door. Fight the enemies inside, before progressing through the next door.

Here, you’ll have a mini-boss called the Orcish Warlord to contend with.

Mini Boss Fight – Orcish Warlord

Tips for beating: The Orcish Warlord is a formidable foe and he has the ability to teleport all over the arena too, so be careful with this. Even worse, he has some high damage attacks that he’ll use too.

Dark Bolt will see him point his staff at you and release a set of red projectiles which will track Clive. You can dodge these quite easily. There’s also Dark Fires too, where the warlord casts a spell that sees a swirl of darkness extend out around you. This happens twice so don’t attack after the first blast. Move out of the splash damage area and be wary of Staff Smash, which sees the Warlord hit you with his staff.

Continuing with the melee side of things, Staff Swing will see him swing his staff around horizontally and it has a large radius, so be ready to dodge. Finally, there’s Dark Puddles (a bunch of circular splash damage puddles belch up damaging pools of magic) and Dark Explosion (Warlord causes an explosion centered around him).

Be sure to use your heavy-hitting attacks here and constantly switch between your different Eikon abilities. When Warlord is doing his melee attacks, hit your Limit Break, as you may get a few Precision Counters in.

Just keep hitting him with your big attacks and be mindful of those teleports.

  Rewards:
3 Meteorite 200 EXP 60 Ability Points
1500 Gil

Once you’ve slain this giant enemy, pull a lever inside the room to open the large door. Watch the cutscene before progressing closer to the castle. Once you open the gates ahead, wait for the scene to play out before diving straight into another boss, this time with the Undertaker.

Boss Fight – Undertaker

Tips for beating: The Undertaker may look tough, but he’s slow and sluggish. In all honesty, you’re likely to have more trouble with the Orcish Warlord than this one. With that said, don’t be fooled, Undertaker still has some nasty attacks that he’ll use and will do big damage if you’re caught out.

Spirits Within has a very obvious wind-up that will see a huge energy beam extend out from its chest and sweep across the battlefield. Just dodge around him and attack from behind while he’s doing this.

However, be mindful of Roundhouse, which wil see Undertaker turn and hit you with a slow and forceful swing of the arm. There’s also Ground Pound, where he’ll punch the ground, creating a large explosion. Charging Attack is the familiar lunge we’ve seen from other enemies, but this one is very easy to dodge.

There’s also Shockwave Jump, where Undertaker will leap into the air and then crash back down, causing a circular shockwave. You’ll need to jump over this one.

Finally, Exhume will see Undertaker slam his fists into the ground, covering the battlefield with a large area of blue energy. Hurry out of this area, as it’ll explode after a few seconds. During this long attack, just keep moving out the way of the blue lights appearing underneath you.

During many of these attacks, it’s a good idea to use Garuda’s moves to knock that stun bar down quickly, and follow it up with some Limit Break attack combos.

  Rewards:
1 The Favor of Lightning (Thunderstorm) 18 Sharp Fang 18 Magicked Ash
350 EXP 170 Ability Points 3000 Gil

Castle Dazbog

After the fight, watch the next cutscene before heading up the stairs. You’ll have more enemies to contend with here, coming in the form of those familiar Fallen foes we’ve seen before. Once they’re dealt with, go through the doors. Kill another group of enemies and then go through the door on the right.

Watch another cutscene and then go through the door on the left. Open the big doors at the bottom and start walking through the inner sanctum. The entrance is guarded by a few enemies but they shouldn’t pose much trouble. Dispatch these and open the doors to watch another cutscene. When you’re done, get ready for another epic clash with Hugo Kupka.

Boss Fight – Titan

Tips for beating: Prepare yourself, as this fight against Titan is a long one with a grand total of FIVE different phases.

Phase 1

The first Phase will see you taking on Ifrit’s form for the fight. Wildfire (pressing Circle) proves a lot more useful than dodging, and be mindful you only have 6 potions (Firelights) through this fight.

Hugo’s abilities will be familiar from the first fight, but with obvious differences. Titan’s Two-Step sees him stomping in your direction, one after another. Geocrush will also see Titan throw himself at you, crashing to the ground around you. Be mindful, as this has a large attack radius. He’ll also kick and stomp at you, along with a Rush attack and Boulder Throw, where Hugo will dip out of the battle and launch rocks at you.

In this Phase, hit Titan with everything you’ve got offensively. Although he does have some varied attacks, most of them are melee based and the wind-up for some of these moves (like kick) are very easy to see coming.

After the first stagger, you’ll be introduced to a brand new move that Ifrit can use – Brimstone. This will basically allow you to avoid damage for a short period of time. Use this when Titan throws large rocks at you.

Once Titan is at very low health (usually the second or third stagger) another cutscene will ensue.

Phase 2

This is a simple enough on-rails section, which will see you moving from side to side, trying to get close to the monstrous form of Titan. Just keep dodging Titan’s attacks and you should be fine.

Phase 3

This is a long and arduous phase, and it’ll see you on a rocky platform, level with Titan’s head. He’s slow, laborious and will generally uses a couple of melee strikes that take a while to complete. Just avoid these attacks and retaliate as quickly as possible, being sure to pummel him with projectiles most of the time.

Claw will see him sink his nails into the rock and burst crystals out that will damage you if you’re too close. Punch will see his arm glide past the corner of the platform, while Slap is another move you’ll need to dodge or jump past as he’ll try and strike you on the platform. Finally, Slam will see him close his fists down and create a shockwave.

In addition to these moves, Titan will also also use Granite Rain from time to time, which sees damaging zones show up on the platform.

Each stagger will see a Cinematic Sequence, which thankfully will see you do a lot more damage to him. After a couple of staggers, we’re onto the next Phase.

Phase 4

Mixing things up, we have a short on-rails shooter section. Here, Ifrit will be holding onto one of Titan’s rocky tentacles and you’ll need to aim with the left stick and shoot the boulders being thrown at you.

Once this hits Titan, another Cinematic Clash will ensue, defeating Titan… but not for good.

Phase 5

The final phase is similar to the Ifrit VS Phoenix fight from before, and this time you’ll be falling constantly as you need to hit Titan with projectiles and attack combos. He’s not too difficult to take out here, but be careful of him scraping rocks from the wall to throw at you; be sure to dodge these.

Once you’ve done a good deal of damage, watch out for Earthshaker, where Titan will cause a row of crystals to damage the wall. Just move across to the alternate side. Finally, you’ll get a cinematic sequence to end things and you’ll have slain Titan once and for all.
