With the usual anime release schedules being all over the place, we Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba fans are lucky enough to have new content every year since the premiere of the anime. With the exciting battle with Gyutaro and Daki in Season 2 Part 2, the new season – Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba’s Season 3 Swordsmith Village Arc takes us through the aftermath.

While the slayers are recuperating, a furious Muzan sends Gyokko and Hantengu to the swordsmith’s village on a suicide mission. Coincidentally, that happens to be Tanjiro’s destination as he needs to convince his swordsmith, Haganezuka to make a new sword after he breaks his for the umpteenth time. Unexpected reunions take place as Genya and Tokito Muichiro brush him aside while Mitsuri is more than happy to see him and Nezuko.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Season 3 starts slow but the fluff is welcome after the nerve-wracking Season 2. Tanjiro takes his time training with the young swordsmith Kotetsu while also trying to befriend Genya and Tokito. The suspense builds as we get a glimpse into his heritage and why he seems to be more special than the rest of the slayers. It could also help address why Nezuko is not your regular demon.

Meanwhile, all of the other characters present also get their time to shine with backstories for even Genya, Tokito, Mitsuri, Hantengu and Muzan, the original demon. We just wish the artsy Gyokko had gotten one as well as we wonder just how wacky he would have been as a human.

A lot of burning questions are finally answered (no pun intended) as Muzan finds his cure to walk in the sun while Nezuko keeps surprising us with her demonic abilities. The action as always is top-notch with the show finally animating some epic fight scenes like Tanjiro using Zenitsu’s Thunder Breathing and Mitsuri’s whip-like sword going against Zohakuten.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba’s Season 1 changed the game for action anime but none of its later seasons have been able to follow in its footsteps. The Mugen Train Arc gets close but ends way too quickly. Now bear with us, we are all fans of the anime, but something feels off with Season 3 only comprising the Swordsmith Arc.

While each episode is fun to watch on its own, when we look at the big picture, nothing much happens. We keep waiting for the other shoe to drop but it never does as the studio has decided to reserve the next part of the story for Season 4. The fight with Hantengu takes up most of Season 3 and while it gives us thrilling and jaw-dropping action with the novel fight techniques and clones, there is nothing more to the plot this season.

Now, don’t take us for a hater cause we know Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is capable of much more as seen in Season 1 where we get action as well as plot. So, we really hope the next season changes things up so that the story keeps moving while also entertaining us with the cool choreographed sword slaying.
