Delicious In Dungeon – Season 1 Episode 7 Recap & Review

Kelpie/Porridge/Broiled with Sauce

Episode 7 of Delicious In Dungeon begins with several men reviving Kabru and his party. While Kabru confronts the gentlemen about it, his party members realize that most of the gear they had before they were murdered has disappeared. Kabru’s anthropomorphic canine ally sniffs the area and identifies who stole his and his comrades’ belongings.

Kabru hands the gentlemen payment for reviving them. He and his party leave to find the thieves. We cut to Marcille and the others completing their usual morning routines. After that, our heroes navigate through the dungeon’s fourth floor and we receive intel about the location from Senshi. Senshi informs Laios about the ways he typically explores this area’s environments.

Afterward, Marcille tells Senshi she likes using magic to help her allies walk across the water. Senshi throws a tangent because he wants to travel through this area without magical aid. Laios holds Senshi down and Marcille casts the spell on him. Afterward, Laios pushes Senshi into the water but he starts sinking. Marcille and Laios retrieve Senshi before he drowns.

Marcille examines Senshi’s hair and realizes Senshi’s hair is insulated, with Laios saying it’s soaked with oil and blood from fallen monsters. Senshi tells Laios and the others he’ll find a way to cross the water. He places a spare Mimic shell in the water, which summons a horse-like creature called a Kelpie.

Marcille’s concerned but Senshi says this Kelpie (named Anne) is a friend of his. He’s never used Anne as a transportation ally before, and questions if the Mimic’s shell will assist him on that front. Laios suggests murdering Anne and using its guts to build a float. Laios doesn’t trust Kelpies, but Senshi argues that he trusts Anne and knows she won’t harm him.

Unfortunately, Laios’s worries come to fruition as Anne starts entering the water’s depths with Senshi. Thankfully, Laios uses a rope to latch onto Anne’s tail, gives the rope to Marcille, and jumps into the water to try to save Senshi. While Laios and Senshi combat Anne, Marcille desperately tries reeling them in.

Thankfully, Laios and Senshi reach the surface and murder Anne. Senshi’s shocked by Anne’s actions, but Laios had a hunch Anne wasn’t a beast worth trusting. Senshi grabs an axe and plans to chop up Anne by himself. Marcille asks Senshi for some of Anne’s fat and Senshi hands some to her.

While the two prepare a dish of some kind, Chilchuk questions his party’s current affairs. He and Laios spot something nearby and head over to its location to investigate. Laios and Chilchuk stumble upon some grain and other belongings. Upon further inspection, Chilchuk notices that the people alongside these goods happen to be Kabru and his party members.

They analyze the area further and find a spooky fish man in the river. Laios speculates that Kabru and his friends succumbed to the fish’s abilities and killed each other. Somehow, Chilchuk gets affected by the fish’s ability, but Laios snaps him out of the trance. Afterward, the two continue traversing the area. Laios starts singing loudly, which wards off two nearby mermaids.

The two retrieve Kabru, his allies, and their belongings and place them somewhere. They return to the location where they found Kabru and his allies’ lifeless bodies. Laios tells Chilchuk that they should gather the grain scattered across the water. Laios contemplates gathering the dead fish man, but Chilchuk convinces him not to.

The two return to their group’s location and notice Senshi and Marcille are still working. This convinces Laios to prepare a meal with the grain and some fish-men particles he secretly took. After Laios completes his dish, he asks Marcille and Senshi to stop working and have lunch with them. Marcille finds Laios’s dish satisfying.

Senshi realizes Laios implemented some fish-man’s eggs in it, upsetting Chilchuk. Chilchuk and Laios argue about it briefly. After arguing and eating, Marcille hands Senshi some special oil she made from Anne’s fat. Although Marcille says its effects may not kick in immediately, Senshi convinces her to help him apply it to his hair.

Marcille applies her water-crossing magic on Senshi. Unlike last time, Senshi successfully walks across the water, surprising his allies. Senshi thanks Marcille for helping him out and shares his newfound love for walking on water. After that, we see our heroes combatting some aquatic enemies called Blade Fish. Marcille uses a spell to wipe them out, to Senshi’s dismay.

Senshi explains why he’s upset that Marcille killed a lot of Blade Fish. The two argue about it. During their argument, several fishmen spot our heroes and plan to attack them from below. However, a large Kraken some of the fishmen, causing the others to retreat. The Kraken reveals itself to Senshi and the others.

Laios, Senshi, and Chilchuk get close to the beast to see if they can find a way to defeat it. Simultaneously, Marcille examines the beast from afar to see if she can provide her comrades with magical support. Senshi spots a trident and wanders over to Marcille, who is busy looking up magic spells in her book.

While she and Senshi wander somewhere, Senshi conjures a plan involving Marcile’s water-crossing magic and his trident. After planning, Marcille returns to the battlefield and applies her magic on the Kraken as soon as it crosses her path. While it’s on the land, Senshi rushes over to the Kraken, leaps into the air, and stabs the beast between its eyes with the trident.

After Senshi defeats the Kraken and explains how he slayed it to his comrades, Laios wonders what they taste like. Marcille tells Laios that squids, octopuses, and other creatures of that variety taste great cooked or raw. Senshi chops up a piece of the Kraken and sprinkles salt on it. He lets Laios taste it, but he finds the Kraken’s flesh disgusting.

Suddenly, a parasite springs out of the Kraken’s skin. Fortunately, Senshi defeats it before it can harm someone. Senshi creates a meal with the parasite and everyone finds the dish tasty. Chilchuk and the others glance at the Kraken and notice several fish are eating it. Laios starts having stomach problems and Senshi reveals why he’s having those troubles.

Additionally, Senshi says the parasite in Laios’s body will die over time but it will leave a hole in his stomach. Chilchuk tells Marcille to apply a healing spell on Laios occasionally to prevent him from dying. After Senshi shares his views on the “circle of life,” the narrator rambles about Laios’s current predicament. The chapter closes with the narrator revealing that Laios will never eat a parasitic worm raw again.

The Episode Review

Despite their brief appearance in this chapter, it’s nice knowing that Kabru and his comrades will be recurring Delicious In Dungeon characters from this point onward. While he and his allies end up losing to a fish-man, it’s nice knowing they won’t be one-and-done background characters. Hopefully, they’ll have a bigger role to play in this anime’s storyline.

As for our main heroes, they continue to be fun characters to follow. While Laios, Chilchuk, and Marcille have their stellar moments in this episode, this one feels more centered around Senshi’s character. From his relationship with Anne to his views on magic, it was nice getting to peer more into his mindset and hearing him share his takes on monsters and dungeon exploration.

Further, the episode’s visuals, soundtrack, and animation continue to impress. Whether it’s an action or comedic scene, Studio Trigger continues to deliver a solid adaptation with this one. We’re hopeful things will remain that way until this anime closes. Overall, this was another fun and insightful chapter of Delicious In Dungeon.
