Delicious In Dungeon – Season 1 Episode 6 Recap & Review

Court Cuisine/Boiled in Salt Water

Episode 6 of Delicious In Dungeon begins with Chilchuk attempting to unlock a door. Then, Marcille, Senshi, and the others’ stomachs start growling and Senshi reminds Laios that they only have Treasure Bugs in their inventory. Senshi suggests they head to the dungeon’s fourth floor immediately to stock up on food.

Chilchuk opens the door and our heroes enter a dining hall area. Our heroes search the place and stumble upon a painting. The painting turns out to be a monster called a Living Painting and attempts to harm Laios. Marcille saves him. She and Chilchuk yell at Laios because he wants the Liviing Painting to absorb him so he can nab the fruit depicted in it.

Laios convinces Chilchuk and Marcille to let him get absorbed by the Living Painting because he argues he can win against the person portrayed in it. Senshi ties a rope around Laios for safety precautions. Laios leaps into the painting and meets a maid. Before he combats her, the servant confuses Laios to be her queen and king’s palace guard.

She gives Laios a fruit basket and tells him to follow her, to his confusion. Laios observes the king and queen comforting their child and this makes him feel uncomfortable. Laios pulls the rope, enticing Senshi and the others to reel him back to their location. Laios tells his comrades he failed to eat the food because the king and queen were ruining the mood.

Chilchuk and the others lead Laios to another painting. Chilchuk finds this one’s atmosphere appealing, so Laios leaps into it. Laios learns that Prince Delgal, the baby who was being comforted by the king and queen in the prior painting, resides in this one and is all grown up. Laios heads to the table while Delgal’s father and Delgal greet each other.

Before Laios takes a bite of some chicken, Delgal’s father falls ill. Laios finds this situation awkward and suggests grabbing food and escaping. Marcille and the others pull Laios back to the real world. Laios returns but realizes he can’t bring Living Painting food with him. Laios jumps into another painting and plans to eat that world’s food.

Before he digs in, he notices Delgal’s inheriting his parent’s kingdom. Afterward, Laios fills himself up with food and is glad that none of them taste like paint. Then, an elf confronts Laios and he realizes they remember their brief encounters with him in the other Living Painting worlds. The elf believes Laios is after Delgal’s throne and tries to exterminate him.

Thankfully, Senshi pulls Laios back to the real world. Laios informs his allies about what happened and they continue exploring. They arrive at the kitchen and Laios suggests setting up camp here. Meanwhile, Chilchuk spots a Mimic and prattles on about his disdain for them. While the others set up camp, Chilchuk recalls his previous Mimic encounters.

Marcille acknowledges Chilchuck’s silence but he says he’s fine. At night, Chilchuk tells Marcille he’s departing to get some water. She tells him to stay safe. Chilchuk spots a Treasure Bug and follows it. However, due to his weight, Chilchuk finds himself trapped inside a room. Chilchuk refuses to call for help and looks for a way to escape.

After investigating the area, Chilchuk realizes the escape switch is near a Mimic. Chilchuk’s unsure what to do, so he sits on a random chest, which happens to be a Mimic in disguise. This unexpected sight causes Chilchuk to activate a switch and leads to an exhilarating chase sequence between him and this Mimic.

Fortunately, Chilchuk finds a way to flip the Mimic over via another switch. Chilchuk examines the chest he noticed earlier and realizes it wasn’t a Mimic. Despite being irritated with this discovery, Chilchuk notices something interesting about the Treasure Bug’s coin’s writing. He quickly deciphers the writing and activates another switch.

This one opens the room’s door, allowing Chilchuk to escape and trap the Mimic via the room’s door. Marcille and the others stumble upon Chilchuk on the ground. Laios and Senshi praise Chilchuk for nabbing a Mimic. Senshi whips up a meal with the Mimic. Laios has a tough time getting the meat out of the Mimic, so Senshi suggests they use Chilchuk’s “picking tools.”

He holds Chilchuk hostage so Laios can use Chilchuk’s tools. This is because Chilchuk isn’t fond of this idea. While eating, Laios informs Chilchuk and the others that Treasure Bugs are Mimic’s natural enemies. Then, Marcille entices Chilchuk to reveal his age to the group. He informs everyone that he’s twenty-nine, and to Senshi and Marcille, this means he’s a young boy.

The episode closes with Chilchuk bickering with his allies over his age.

The Episode Review

This anime continues to expand upon its world with more interesting monsters and funny antics between its four protagonists. From its Living Paintings to its Mimics, fans will love obtaining more rich lore from this series. Having said that, video game enthusiasts who remember the painting hopping excursions of Super Mario 64 will get a kick out of this chapter.

Seeing Laios interact with the residents in these worlds was fascinating. However, it’ll make viewers wonder what could’ve happened if Laios aided the Living Painting’s people. Additionally, folks who’ve been enjoying Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End know Frieren has a rough relationship with Mimics. Seeing this species crop up in this series will bring them much delight.

While both series use those creatures for comedic purposes, fans may cherish Delicious In Dungeon’s use for them more. This is due to the episode giving the Mimics a significant purpose and finely detailed background. In addition to having stellar imagery and animation, Delicious In Dungeon continues to be a marvel to behold weekly.

I’m excited to see what other strange creatures and goofy and action-packed happenings occur in the following weeks.
