Chicken Nugget – Episode 10 Recap, Review & Ending Explained

Episode 10

Episode 10 begins 50 years later from the chicken nugget incident. It’s revealed that Baek-joong is a 78 years old celebrated singer ‘Yellow Pants’. He has a massive fan following and he is set to conduct his 50th and last concert. People from all over the world have come to attend.

The scene then cuts to a flashback. Everybody involved with the machines are going back to the place where the machines first landed. Dr. Yoo inquires about the aliens and we find that their world is a utopia.

Who does Seon-man give the company to?

Reaching the forest, Baek-jung goes into one of the machines and transforms into his original form. As soon as he changes, a huge spaceship sucks Baek-jung in, along with the two machines and Min-ah.

Back in the office, Seon-man gives the company to the full-time employee, Mr. Kim, owing to his ability to slack and still finish all the work. He suggests Baek-joong become a singer and if he becomes old and struggle, the company will have his back. Seon-man plans to live in the nature and as healthy as possible until he is 106 years old.

They later have a office lunch for the first time. As Baek-joong is returning home, a group of students recognise him and click a picture. They ask him the name of the band and he says, “Yellow Pants”.

What’s the origin of the machine?

Back to the future, Baek-joong spots Min-ah in the crowd. However, it’s only another fan. It’s here we discover that Tae-man has become the CEO of More than Machines, after the late CEO Kim and late Dr. Yoo had been its chief researcher for a while.

Later at night, Baek-joong meet Baek-jung in his alien form but Min-ah is still a chicken nugget. Baek-jung informs that shortly after their arrival 250 years ago, Earth was banned for travel due to the development of weapons of mass destruction.

All the machines were destroyed and that machine was the last of its kind. Baek-jung needed one more day to charge it but it meant that Min-ah would have had nobody to return to. Thus, he gives Baek-joong a button which would take him back to any point in the past but with his memories erased along with those who know him.

Baek-joong calls for Seon-man. We meet Seon-man in the extremes of good health and he jumps from mountain to mountain and dances while saying, “I won’t die”. As he arrives at Baek-joong’s house, he passes away.

How does Chicken Nugget end?

Baek-joong is left alone to take a decision. Min-ah appears in front of him and explains about the utopia of the alien planet where happiness flows and creatures help others to lessen their pain. Baek-joong decides to give Min-ah and her father the time that they deserved and clicks the button.

Min-ah brings chicken nuggets for lunch with Seon-man and Baek-joong smiling happily. The episode ends with sinister music as we see the purple machine in the background.

The Episode Review

This episode tied all the loose ends of the plot well. We meet all the characters. The show ended like an autograph from Ryu Seong-ryong and Director Lee’s film Extreme Job ( “I won’t die). We can previously come across clips and soundtracks from Be Melodramatic (Ahn Jae-hong’s kdrama). The popular references to various films, memes and personalities were marvellous.

Everything was perfect except the logic of the ending. If the machines are back in a different planet, how can it be present in the past while suggesting that everything will take place all over again since Baek-joong doesn’t have any recollection of what had already taken place? It did not make any sense to us, does it make sense to you?

All in all, Chicken Nugget was a wild ride and we enjoyed watching it. It is definitely the strangest show in the k-drama universe, but there isn’t must rewatch value. But hey, we aren’t complaining!

  1. Scenario A: It might be a time loop since since nobody remembers anything. They will eventually have the same fate for the next 50 years and the cycle repeats.

Scenario B: Notice how the end scene was different from the first scene where Min-ah brought chicken nuggets. In the first secene her dad goes to the restroom and he doesn’t know that she brought food. And in the end scene of the same situation is a bit different. So there are chances things would go differently this time. Maybe her dad doesn’t allow her to go inside the strange machine since he will be present in the room.
