Episode 9
Episode 9 of Chicken Nugget begins with our benevolent aliens trying to appear threatening to their adversaries. The leader, Baek Jung (Kim Tae-hoon) tells them that they are aliens and the machine belongs to them. He offers to prove it by turning Min-ah into a human but the group is tense and charged. Dr. Yoo has gone mad with his master alien race theory, Tae-man has showed his true colours, Seon-man and Baek-joong have had enough and want Min-ah to be turned back into a human.
We see a brief flashback of the aliens 200 years ago, eating chicken nuggets for the first time after they lost the machines. They comment that it will take them 200 years to look for the machines.
Nobody is ready to listen to the aliens. Baek-jung tries to knock some sense into them by saying that humans already drive their friends and families to the brink of destruction. The aliens begin miming the most powerful and threatening things to humans – missiles, bomb, deer (because one of them has a physique of a deer) and BTS (because nobody is powerful than BTS on earth).
Alas, none of this work and the group start a comic fight. Seeing his comrades tied up, Baek-jung is finally pushed to a corner and he starts using his powers. He throws Dr. Yoo, Tae-man and everybody else. He explains that the machines no longer have much energy and they need to go back home. He proposes to go to their planet and bring back others to help his comrades.
However, Seon-man and Baek-joong resist passionately. One of the aliens suggest a middle ground. Baek-Jong would take Min-ah to their planet, they’ll turn her back into the human form and bring her back. It’s revealed that the entire process will take 1 day which is equivalent to 50 earth days. Seon-man breaks down.
At this time, Tae-man enters and takes Min-ah (read: chicken nugget) hostage. As he is about to trike her, Thunder – now a broken piece of metal – attacks him. Dr. Yoo and Tae-man are tied up. After a prolonged silence, Seon-man agrees to the solution and the episode ends.
The Episode Review
This episode was incredible! I personally couldn’t stop laughing at the aliens trying to mime the most threatening and powerful things to humans. I couldn’t breath for a moment when Kim Tae-hoon started silent dancing on Blood, Sweat and Tears saying, “I am BTS. No one on earth can mess with BTS”. This was peak comedy, I have nothing but praise for it.
The slow-motion micro-war between technology, science, aliens, popular culture, nature, human greed and destructive forces (missiles, bombs) is an absolute stroke of genius.
The ending of the episode was more complicated and heartbreaking than we assumed. With this, as we move towards the finale, we will meet you in the next recap.
