Alice & Jack – Season 1 Episode 6 Recap, Review & Ending Explained

What happens to Alice? 

At the beginning of episode 6, we see Celia and Jack walking in the cemetery, discussing where they should bury Alice once she passes away. Later, Jack visits Alice in the hospital where she appears frail and tired of receiving flowers. Instead, she asks Jack to scratch her back, which he does.

They share a hug, and Alice asks Jack to promise her that he won’t have any contact with other women after she’s gone. Jack also reveals his plan to leave his job, thanks to past investments that will sustain him.

Unfortunately, that very night, Alice peacefully passes away in her sleep while holding onto Jack. Jack sits beside Alice’s body in the viewing room, reflecting on the moments they shared together and apart. He recalls their first meeting and the day Alice helped him shave his beard.

Jack also reminisces about Alice’s wedding, which never came to be, and how she repeatedly returned to him after running away multiple times. Every memory floods back to him, from their first glass of wine to their first kiss.

Is Jack alive or dead?

After leaving the hospital, Jack sits on a bench outside and calls his daughter, Celia, to ask if he can join her and Lynn for dinner. Suddenly, he starts experiencing shooting pains in his heart, as if someone is twisting it.

Jack also begins to have visions of his past, remembering the time he met Alice on a rooftop. He asks Alice if she thinks their relationship will be different this time, and she simply responds, “Maybe.” Alice then requests Jack to scratch her back, just like he used to.

How does Alice & Jack end?

The scene changes, and we find Celia seated beside two newly dug graves, indicating that Jack has passed away and now rests beside Alice. For those who may have missed the previous episodes, Jack had a heart condition that was exacerbated by Alice’s death, leading to his own demise.

Towards the end, we witness Celia opening a locker, presumably belonging to Jack. Inside, she discovers a box containing photos of Alice and a letter with the words “We’ll meet again.”

The Episode Review

Jack remained true to his promise until the very end, standing faithfully by Alice’s side. When Alice passed away, Jack followed shortly after, and in the moments that followed, what Jack envisioned might just be unfolding in the afterlife.

There, he reunites with Alice once more, this time hoping for a happier conclusion to their story rather than the bitterness of their earthly struggles. While Alice is undoubtedly heartbroken over her father’s passing, she finds peace in knowing that her father has reunited with the one he loved deeply.

However, it’s hard to deny that many of us were left feeling more than a little disappointed by the ending.
