Alice & Jack – Season 1 Episode 4 Recap & Review

Episode 4

Episode 4 begins with Alice and Jack meeting again, where Alice hands Jack a check for five million dollars. Jack is astonished by his sudden fortune, all thanks to Alice’s tip. He thanks Alice, realizing that now he can provide Celia with the future she would have had if he and Lynn had never divorced.

However, the moment takes a turn when Alice attempts to kiss Jack, but he pulls away. He tells Alice that he cannot do that and has turned in a new corner. Alice confesses her love for Jack, admitting that she finds herself loving more whenever they are together.

As the episode unfolds, Alice tries to reconcile with Jack by offering a substantial sum to fund his research on Hashimoto’s disease. When Jack approaches Alice to discuss the citation, he discovers that she has disappeared once again. However, she leaves a letter for Jack at her office, which he refuses to read.

Six years pass, and Celia, now a teenager, opens Alice’s letter while Jack is away. She traces the letter back to Alice’s apartment to ask her some questions she’s been wanting to ask for a long time. Celia is torn about whether she should love her dad or not, to which Alice responds that Jack is the best person she has ever met and she owes her life to him.

After their heart-to-heart, Alice also gives Celia some dance lessons. The story jumps ahead two years, and we see Jack on a date. He shares with the woman about Alice and how he’s been in love with her since 2007. This revelation doesn’t sit well with Jack’s date, and she decides to leave. Alice and Jack still stay in touch and often meet up.

However, Jack has no intention of rekindling their romantic relationship, knowing that Alice is likely to run away again, leaving him heartbroken. Alice shares with Jack that she has decided to become a parent, and her insemination is scheduled for Wednesday. Jack genuinely expresses his happiness for Alice and believes she will be a wonderful mother.

As the episode progresses, Jack goes on a date with Rachel, a TV host whom we see interviewing Jack at the beginning of the episode. Jack shares with her the same information he told his last date before she stormed out the door. He also makes it clear that he and Alice don’t have a physical relationship; they’re just friends.

Rachel appreciates Jack’s honesty and suggests they start a relationship. As the episode comes to a close, Jack accompanies Alice to the clinic to provide moral support. He hugs Alice purely as a friend, reassuring her that she’s not alone and can rely on him.

The Episode Review

Alice and Jack’s relationship seems to have settled into a somewhat stable rhythm, with three years passing without Alice disappearing. It’s evident that Alice’s love for Jack runs deep, but she’s painfully aware of the damage she’s caused by repeatedly breaking his heart.

She knows Jack may be hesitant to let her back in, fearing she’ll hurt him again. Perhaps Alice is contemplating the idea that having a child could bring some much-needed stability into her life.

Maybe she sees it as a way to prove her commitment to Jack and show him she’s capable of change. But with their history, it’s a delicate situation, and Alice likely understands that adding a child into the mix won’t magically fix everything.
