The Yuzuki Family’s Four Sons – Season 1 Episode 9 Recap & Review

Classroom Visitation

Episode 9 of The Yuzuki Family’s Four Sons begins with Hayato speaking with Mr. Akiyama about a student he’s having trouble assisting with his World History studies. Mr. Akiyama offers to help Hayato with his issues as we cut to Minato and Uta discussing Gakuto’s visitation day dilemma. Minato plans to attend the event even though he and Uta agreed not to get involved. Minato tells Uta he knows Gakuto wants Hayato to attend the event but is too scared to ask.

Uta reflects on her Visitation Day experience with her mother and understands where Minato’s coming from. Uta agrees to help, so Minato gives her the rundown of his plan. He asks her to cover for him when he skips class after second period. After having dinner with his brothers at night, Visitation Day arrives. Minato leaves class after second period and tells Uta to cover for him. Mikoto stops Minato and thinks he has to use the restroom.

Left with no choice, Minato tells Mikoto he’s planning to skip class so he can attend Gakuto’s Visitation Day event. Mikoto says he’ll tag along with Minato. After avoiding suspicion from an adult in public, the two continue their journey to Gakuto’s school. Meanwhile Minato and Mikoto’s teacher head to the restroom and spot Hayato. They ask him questions about his brothers and Hayato’s unsure what they’re talking about. One of the teachers brings up Gakuto’s Visitation Day event to Hayato, startling him.

Minato’s teacher returns and scolds Uta for lying to him. Hayato rushes to Gakuto’s school and bumps into Minato and Mikoto. Meanwhile, Mr. Kojiro arrives at the Visitation Day event. Suddenly, Minato, Mikoto, and Hayato head into the classroom, surprising Gakuto. Hayato tells Gakuto to focus on his teacher and Gakuto tries his best to show off in front of his brothers. Everyone, including Uta, meet up to discuss the situation further.

Gakuto apologizes for causing everyone trouble, but Mr. Kojiro reminds him that he’s to blame for not stopping him. One of Hayato’s co-workers tells Gakuto that it’s okay for him to rely on his brother for mutual support. Hayato, Mikoto, and Minato tell Gakuto they’re important to him and say he can count on them if he ever needs help.

The episode closes with Saki apologizing to Waka for missing his Visitation Day.

The Episode Review

The Yuzuki Family’s Four Sons continues to impress with another heartfelt and relatable chapter. From Minato and Mikoto’s willingness to skip class for Gakuto to Gakuto opening up to his brothers, many fans will adore seeing these characters speak honestly about each other. Moreover, this episode’s intro segment shows how much the animators enjoy this project.

Similarly to works like Bocchi The Rock, Studio Shuka’s gone above and beyond to subvert viewers’ expectations with the show’s content. Whether it be through unique animation techniques or having characters break the fourth wall like Minato does before this episode’s opening, I can tell this studio’s having a blast adapting Shizuki Fujisawa’s manga every week.

I’m excited to see what other tricks they have to bring his world to life. Nonetheless, this was another heartwarming chapter of The Yuzuki Family’s Four Sons. It shows how far Minato is willing to go to make his brothers happy and people in similar situations will resonate with his actions. I’m excited to see what other adventures await our brotherly characters before this season wraps up.
