A Fancy Article and a Scholarship for a Baby

Young Sheldon Season 7 Episode 9 opens with Sheldon receiving a package from his tutor, whom he studied with back in Germany. Subsequently, he discovers that a widely acclaimed physics publication has published the paper he co-authored with her.

This truly makes him happy. Missy, on the other hand, gets home and shares the news that she got an A with her parents. They are more impressed by Missy’s accomplishment because they don’t know the weight Sheldon’s achievement holds.

Shortly after, it quickly becomes clear to them that Sheldon has achieved a major milestone, as prestigious universities like Princeton, Harvard, Stanford, Caltech, and MIT are doing everything they can to make Sheldon join their university.

On the other hand, Principal Hagemeyer is hellbent on making Sheldon stay back at their local college, too. To achieve this, she does everything from bribing Sheldon’s parents with scholarship promises to little Cece to asking Dr. Linkletter and Dr. Sturgis to convince Sheldon to stay back.

As per Principal Hagemeyer’s instructions, Dr. Linkletter and Dr. Sturgis attempt to convince Sheldon to stay back at first. However, they end up feeling guilty and wanting the best for Sheldon. Consequently, they ask him to seize the opportunity and make the best of it. At this point, Sheldon is confused between Caltech and MIT and is unable to pick one, as he thinks both are equally good.

At last, Sheldon settles at MIT and visits the university with his parents. However, after seeing the incredibly chilly climate, the episode comes to a close with him picking Caltech.

The Episode Review

In episode 9, Sheldon and Missy achieve academic success. While one gets his paper published in a prestigious academic publication, the other gets an A. Sheldon and his family struggle throughout this episode to choose the best university for him. In the process of this struggle, a major question left behind by The Big Bang Theory is answered here, and we learn why Sheldon probably disliked MIT as much as he did.

The dramedy’s storyline continues to be amusing, humorous, lighthearted, and full of drama. The show is nearing its final episode, and the plot elements are slowly coming together. Furthermore, the show continues to add a fascinating spin to The Big Bang Theory. While the show doesn’t stick to the small elements of the sitcom, it does address and give us a peek into the major plot threads, as it did in this episode, which is truly fascinating for all The Big Bang Theory fans.

At this point, it’s also quite evident that the show is about to explore George Sr.’s tragic death, as we are in the final season of the show. Furthermore, the show’s director has confirmed that the show is moving in that direction. Although The Big Bang Theory revealed a brief outline of the events, Sheldon Cooper has repeatedly demonstrated his unreliability as a narrator. Therefore, it will be intriguing to observe whether Young Sheldon adheres to the revelations in The Big Bang Theory or veers off course.
