Episode 9

Episode 9 of Wonderful World starts with a flashback of a young Soo-hyun taking Yu-ri home after she was thrashed and left in the park by her mother. Go-eun also welcomes Yu-ri into their house and adopts her as her daughter. Years go by and Yu-ri becomes a part of Soo-hyun’s life even after her marriage with Soo-ho.

In the present day, Go-eun protects Yu-ri from being beaten up by her mother. She asks Mok-ryeon to leave Yu-ri alone and threatens her but Mok-ryeon leaves the photo of her kissing Soo-ho with Yu-ri. In private, she asks Go-eun to be wary of Yu-ri. Seon-yul waits outside for the drama to unfold and gives Mok-ryeon an envelope full of cash. He also sends photos of a distressed Yu-ri to Soo-ho.

Soo-ho rushes to meet Yu-ri and finds Mok-ryeon there. He also notices Soo-hyun sitting inside Yu-ri’s store and decides against confronting Seon-yul. Seon-yul leaves the building with a wicked smile on his face. Following this, Yu-ri goes in to chat with Soo-hyun, unaware of the fact that she knows the truth about her affair.

Soo-hyun tells Yu-ri that she knows everything and reveals that she cannot forgive Yu-ri for her actions. She asks Yu-ri to give her some time to clear her head and leaves the store. After Soo-hyun leaves, Yu-ri breaks down thinking about how she betrayed her sister. Meanwhile, Soo-hyun goes to the parking lot and sobs all by herself in her car.

Seon-yul observes Soo-hyun having a breakdown in her car. Soo-hyun thinks about all her memories with Yu-ri and all the times she was naïve enough to not realise the fact that Yu-ri was having an affair with her husband. That night, Han-sang tells Soo-ho that Soo-hyun knows the truth about his affair with Yu-ri. Seon-yul, on the other hand, meets Soo-jin and Yong-goo at a bar.

The trio get drunk and Seon-yul tries to let loose. At her house, Soo-ho tries to apologise to Soo-hyun for cheating on her with her sister but the latter refuses to forgive him. She feels extremely betrayed by Soo-ho for having an affair with her sister of all people and for coming back into her life despite doing that.

Soo-ho kneels, apologising to Soo-hyun but she tells him it is too late for things to go back to how they were before. She goes to Gun-woo’s bedroom and suddenly starts envisioning the affair between Yu-ri and Soo-ho. Meanwhile, Yu-ri recalls how she ended up sleeping with Soo-ho. A flashback shows Yu-ri comforting a drunk Soo-ho at a bar.

Soo-ho talks about how he failed to protect Gun-woo and Yu-ri and how he was incompetent. One thing leads to another and Yu-ri helps comfort a crying Soo-ho. She takes him to his hotel room and puts him to bed. However, the two end up kissing and hooking up. The next morning, Yu-ri is overwhelmed with guilt for her actions and leaves Soo-ho’s room.

Present-day Yu-ri is traumatised by the memory. She calls Mok-ryeon and asks where she got the photo of her with Soo-ho. Mok-ryeon refuses to reveal who had given her the photo. However, just then, Soo-hyun pulls up in front of Mok-ryeon in her car. She warns Mok-ryeon against blackmailing Yu-ri and asks her to back off. Mok-ryeon is shocked to learn that Soo-hyun hadn’t abandoned Yu-ri despite learning the truth.

Soo-hyun meets Seon-yul for a chat and he asks her to come to a remote pond in the trenches of a forest. Seon-yul threatens to kill Soo-hyun but the latter claims that to her, dying is much easier than living. Soo-hyun tells Seon-yul that she has lived for years and endured every hurdle life has pushed her way, adding that she would continue to do so.

Meanwhile, Soo-ho thinks about Seon-yul’s involvement in trying to ruin his life. He learns that Seon-yul had been following Soo-hyun even during her time in prison. He goes to meet Seon-yul at the junkyard and asks if Kim Joon had put him up to this. Soo-ho asks why Seon-yul was going after Soo-hyun when she had served time for killing his father.

Seon-yul claims that he did not like the fact that Soo-hyun was trying to be happy and wanted to make her feel the same pain as him. Soo-ho grabs Seon-yul by the collar but the latter accuses him of causing more pain to Soo-hyun by having an affair. Before leaving, Soo-ho asks Seon-yul to spare Soo-hyun and pick on him instead.

That night, Seon-yul visits his mother in the hospital and thinks about how Soo-hyun was crying in her car. Seon-yul tells her mother that Soo-hyun’s tears are nothing compared to the ones she cried because of Soo-hyun’s actions. The next day, Soo-hyun waits to meet Yu-ri at a restaurant. Meanwhile, Soo-ho meets Hye-geum in his office and asks her to prepare for Kim Joon’s interview.

He asks Hye-geum to bring all the evidence about her relationship as well as the records of the tax fraud committed by Kim Joon. Soo-ho reveals that he plans on exposing the politician on his talk show. Meanwhile, Kim Joon approves a list of questions that Soo-ho could ask him during the live show. Just then, Seon-yul shows up to meet Kim Joon and hands him a photo of Hye-geum entering Soo-ho’s broadcast station.

At the same time, Soo-jin takes Tae-ho to her tufting studio for drinks. The two are seemingly having a fun date while Soo-jin tries to ask Tae-ho questions about his family as well as Soo-hyun. Meanwhile, Yu-ri shows up at the restaurant to meet Soo-hyun and tries to apologise to her for her actions.

Soo-hyun sits straight-faced and tells Yu-ri that she is not going to kick her out of their family as she cares about Go-eun a lot more than she cares about the affair. She asks Yu-ri to keep up appearances in front of Go-eun to make sure her mother does not find the truth about the affair. Seon-yul enters Go-eun’s restaurant with a photo of Yu-ri and Soo-ho.

A while later, Soo-hyun tries to call Go-eun but is not able to get in touch with her mother. Soo-hyun rushes to the restaurant and finds that Go-eun was taken to the hospital after suffering a concussion. At the hospital, Tae-ho tells Soo-hyun that Go-eun is stable now.

At his news station, Soo-ho greets Kim Joon before his interview. Hye-geum texts Soo-ho stating that she is on her way to the news station. Yu-ri shows up at the hospital to check up on Go-eun. The episode ends with Soo-hyun asking Yu-ri to take care of Go-eun while she waits outside Seon-yul’s house as he drives the car towards her. 

The Episode Review

We have finally reached full circle and the show is back to where it started. Since Seon-yul was the one who told Kim Joon about Hye-geum, I wonder if Hye-geum will be killed. Seon-yul is currently in everyone else’s business but his own and this new evil character looks good on Cha Eun-woo.

There is so much wrong about Yu-ri’s affair with Soo-ho as it is clear from the flashback that Yu-ri was not drunk and it was she who instigated the affair. However, the photo that Seon-yul is sharing with everyone has Yu-ri dressed in a satin camisole. This makes it clear that Yu-ri and Soo-ho hooked up more than once making this so much worse for the two characters. 

With how things ended in this episode, I hope that Go-eun doesn’t turn up dead. If she dies, Soo-hyun will have all the more reason to commit another crime.
