Venus in The Sky (Thai BL) – Episode 1 Recap & Review

A Chance Encounter with a Past Love Interest

Episode 1 of Venus in the Sky starts at a Seven-Eleven store. Venus leaves the store to make some deliveries. At the last delivery stop, he notices a doctor’s uniform on the ground and goes to pick it up. He also notices that the coat has a familiar smell. After hanging it up, he reads the name engraved: Dr. Fahklai Seng. He is surprised because he recognizes the name and bumps into someone as he turns to leave. 

The scene cuts to some days before the incident. Venus is at a furniture store with his friend Tong. He talks about quitting his job and staying with his brother in his hometown. They talk about a person Venus has not seen in three years and might be working in his hometown. Venus seems convinced he might not have to meet that person since the odds of him working in a hospital close to his brother’s place are quite slim.

Soon, Venus leaves for his brother’s place. After driving a while, he arrives but there seems to be no one home. He lets himself in and hears loud music from upstairs. He heads upstairs to greet his brother and walks in on his brother’s exclusive love scene with his boyfriend, Bomb. He leaves them and calls his friend Tong to tell him about it.

Later, the three of them enjoy a meal and as Venus is finishing unpacking, his brother begs him to go out to the store. Venus’s brother Janus trains him to work at the store, making the best-selling drink, Thai tea frappe. Venus likes the drink. His brother asks him to take a box to the back while a new customer, a doctor, walks in. 

Sky works at a nearby hospital and comes to check out Janus’s 7-11 store. Janus introduces him to their delivery app. He could use their online app to make orders and the store staff will deliver it. As the doctor leaves, Venus comes from the back room and seems curious about the doctor who just left.

Many days later, Venus is on the lookout for someone as he keeps glancing out the window. The person he is looking for is a doctor and he asks another staff if he knows of any good-looking, well-built, tall doctor with a cat-like face. The staff almost tells him about a doctor he had seen but Janus interrupts.

Later that day, Venus sneaks out of the store to make deliveries and goes back to the opening scene. Venus bumped into Dr. Fahklai Seng or Sky, his university friend. The scent on the coat takes Venus back to his college days when he was washing clothes with someone. The person says Venus smells nice and asks about the detergent.

Back to the present, Venus seems angry to see him, while Sky is ecstatic. He is happy to see Venus and tries to talk to him but Venus does not want to talk to him. He thinks Venus has come to visit him but realizes he is making a delivery. Sky tries to ask Venus out for a meal but he does not listen and walks away.

Sky constantly visits the seven eleven store for the next days since the surprise meeting but does not bump into Venus, who is no longer coming to the store. At home, Janus manages to convince Venus to help at the store the next day. 

In a flashback, Venus goes back to the day of his graduation. Sky got very drunk and he helped him to his room. Venus confesses his feelings to Sky but he is turned down even though they kiss. Sky insists on them being friends while he acts like more than a friend. Venus is not ready to stay friends with him. 

Back to the present, Sky is at the hospital. His friend asks why he is grumpy and he says it is because he wants to see someone hiding from him. The friend wants some coffee but instead of making an online order, Sky offers to go to the store. 

Venus arrives at the store just as Sky is leaving with the coffee. When Sky tries to talk to him, Venus’s knee hits him, making Sky squeal. Janus comes just in time and forces Venus to take care of Sky. Janus makes Venus apologize and talks with Sky. Sky takes advantage of the situation to make Venus unblock him from all social media. He promises to text him after he is done with his shift at the hospital. 

Janus talks to Venus about acting on impulse and staying angry. He advises him to figure out why he is still angry because he still has feelings for Sky. Venus needs to talk to Sky since it has been a long time, and if he lets go of his anger, he will feel relieved. Venus promises that he will try to let him and Sky talk.

Sky calls his friend Kla to ask for advice on how he should let a person know that he is serious about them. Sky mentions that he had done something bad to the person, and now he might hate him. Kla tells him not to do something simple but to start by announcing on social media that he is single. 

Venus sees Sky’s post. He pretends not to care about it but then goes ahead to snoop through his social media. Sky texts Venus, but he does not reply. He bombards him with notifications of him commenting on his social media. Sky texts that if Venus fails to respond, he will visit the shop the next day. The episode ends with Sky and Venus agreeing to chat for five minutes and they catch up. 

The Episode Review

The episode introduces the series and the overall stakes. We’ve got three boys love couples: Venus and Sky, Janus and Bomb, Kla and Tong. The episode provides backstories to Venus and Sky while in college too. Venus and Sky have not seen each other for three years since Venus walked out after Sky rejected his confession. 

Sky will likely fight for a second chance at love in this series. We will need to wait and see if Venus will allow himself to love Sky again. The episode felt comprehensive and satisfactory, giving all the necessary information to help understand the main characters while leaving the viewer curious about how their stories unfold.
