Under the Gun – K-drama Episode 5 Recap & Review

Episode 5

Episode 5 of Under The Gun kicks off with Se Young feeling anxious about Go Gun and what he might do next. Her mother pays her a visit, and Se Young opens up about a boy she likes who’s going through a tough time. She wants to help him, but he’s determined to face everything alone, almost like he has a point to prove.

Se Young’s mom suggests that love can throw you off balance, but it can also help you find stability in life. If two people truly love each other and feel the same way, everything will eventually fall into place.

It’s the day of reckoning for Go Gun as he faces the music for being caught in a red on an illegal gambling den. Despite being a minor, his frequent visits to the den, even for work, land him in hot water. When it’s time for his closing statement, Go Gun assures the judge that he’s learned his lesson and will never set foot in a gambling den again.

He explains that he was merely running errands for the players, fetching cigarettes and alcohol. The judge sees sincerity in Go Gun’s eyes and decides to let him off the hook. The news of Go Gun’s arrest spreads to school, and everyone starts making memes to mock him, but Se Young reprimands everyone for their insensitivity.

When Go Gun asks Se Young why she’s always so kind and understanding toward him, she confesses that it’s because she loves him. Se Young also shares the quote her mother said about love with Go Gun. Unfortunately, he sort of breaks off their relationship, saying he doesn’t have time for such things.

It’s clear that Go Gun doesn’t want Se Young to suffer because of him. But Se Young, being Se Young, doesn’t want to give up on their relationship and leans in to kiss Go Gun, who surprisingly reciprocates. Later, Go Gun visits his sister in the hospital, and they have a heartfelt conversation about how he feels responsible for his family’s problems.

Jun Hee advises Go Gun to live his own life and not let their family’s issues weigh him down. Since Go Gun isn’t ready to lose his sister, he decides to enter the competition. Go Gun arrives at the tournament venue, greeted by well-wishes from Ji-Chul and Se Young. Se Young even hands him a cute keychain for luck. Inside, Go Gun runs into Tae Ha and wishes him to play fair, but it seems like Tae Ha might have other plans.

The Episode Review

Finally, it has happened—Go Gun has agreed to gamble again, but this time, he won’t get in trouble as it is an official tournament. If Go Gun wins this, all his problems will be over.

He can pay for his sister’s medical bills and settle his father’s debts with the reward money, but this isn’t going to be a cakewalk, as dozens of skilled high rollers, much more experienced than Go Gun, are participating in the competition.

To win, Go Gun has to defeat them, and also Tae Ha, who surely knows how to keep up a poker face.
