The Wheel Of Time – Season 2 Episode 7 “Daes Dae’Mar” Recap & Review

Daes Dae’Mar

The initial few minutes of The Wheel Of Time season 2 episode 7 offer a look back in time. It comes to our attention that Siuan Sanche and Moiraine were on the verge of leaving their post at the White Tower. Gitara, on the other hand, sees a foretelling and tells the two that the dragon reborn has been born again and that they need to find him.

In the present timeline, Siuan Sanche requests an audience with Moiraine. We previously saw she visited Cairhien. Following this, she inquires of Moiraine as to the explanation for why she did not provide any information regarding the reborn dragon. Following this, Siuan informs Moiraine that she is going to share the load that she has been carrying.

Rand is called upon by the Amerlyn Seat not long after that. She comes to the conclusion that Rand’s powers and knowledge have remained the same since Moiraine first discovered him. Following this, she makes the announcement that the Aes Sedai will be teaching him while holding him captive at the White Tower.

In the meantime, the Damane challenge Egwene to demonstrate her abilities in front of them. Renna cautions her not to let her down this time, warning that there would be repercussions if she does. Egwene is in a position where she has no option but to comply with anything she is instructed, and the exhibition of her power is quite spectacular.

Following this, Nynaeve and Elayne head to the Ogier to speak with him. After that, he informs him that Perrin was able to get away and that he is now safe. After that, he starts telling them about the dreadful circumstance that Egwene is in. Nynaeve gives him the assurance that they will first help Egwene, and then they will also come to his rescue.

Lanfear, on the other hand, pays a visit to Mat. Having accomplished this, she then brings him along with her. Ishamael has a talk with Mat, and at the end of it, he offers Mat an unusual kind of tea and tells him that if he drinks it, he will be able to see his previous incarnations.

Not long after that, Mat is observed drinking the tea while he struggles to determine his true identity. He then begins to behave in a peculiar manner.

Perrin and Aviendha are making their way through the desert when the former notices a woman and proceeds to inform the latter of his finding. The two Aiel warriors also happen to be Aviendha’s friends and members of the community, and they proceed to tell her about the passing of their mutual friend. Following this, Aviendha requests that the two women subject her to severe pain. In a later conversation, Aviendha clarifies for Perrin that the reason she allowed that to take place was due to a tradition, which she then goes on to explain.

When the action switches to Barthanes, we find out that Liandrin Sedai is paying him a visit there. He asks his mother, Anvaere, to leave them alone so that he can have a private conversation with the Dark Ajah. Anvaere has an inkling that something is amiss, so she listens in on their conversation on purpose. She finds out that her son is a Darkfriend and that Liandrin has ordered him to kill Moiraine in accordance with the instructions he has received from her. Following this, Anvaere locks him up in a room and informs the Queen and the authorities about her son’s collaboration with the dark.

Rand has been shielded against the forces of the One Power by Siuan Sanche. In addition to that, she plans to disclose the fact that the White Tower is exerting influence over him. Rand is having a hard time rescuing Egwene from Ishmael as an immediate consequence of this. Following that, he approaches Lanfear for help because he must leave the White Tower in order to get to Falme.

Lan pays Logain a visit. He interrogates him about what he knows about Moiraine’s incapacity to channel and why he thinks it is serious. Lan tempts him to respond by telling him that the key to getting out of there is in his possession. He then proceeds to inform Lan that Moiraine is still capable of channelling the One Power, despite the fact that there is something preventing her from doing so.

We watch as Nynaeve and Elayne make plans to bring Egwene out of the Seanchan prison where she is being held. The next thing that they do is put the a’dam that Ryma offered them around the neck of a sul’dam. They now have an easy way of exerting authority over the woman while also gaining access to the holding facility.

By removing Rand’s barrier from the One Power, Verin is able to assist Moiraine and Lan. As a consequence of this development, Rand, Lan, and Moiraine are currently making an attempt to get out of the White Tower. While they are travelling, Lan explains to Moiraine about the knot in her weave and helps Rand figure out how to untie it. Following this, Moiraine is able to channel the One Power again.

During the final moments of the episode, Moiraine opens the Waygate by channeling the One Power. However, Siuan Sanche shows up and orders her to close the gate, and she goes. However, Lanfear shows up and attacks Siuan Sanche. She’s about to attack Moiraine as well, but Rand stops her. Afterwards, Lan and Rand pass through the Waygate, and Moiraine hesitates to leave Siuan behind, though she eventually does.

The Episode Review

In this episode, Elayne and Nynaeve are working on figuring out how to rescue Egwene from the Seanchan prison. Lanfear is seen helping Rand in getting out of the White Tower. Mat is being convinced by Ishmael to join the Darkfriends. The connection between Perrin and Aviendha appears to be strengthening.

There’s an abundance of tension and mystery in this episode. The way the plot is developing has us on the edge of our seats. The show’s second season appears to be succeeding in creating a fascinating universe of its own, despite significant deviations from the source material.

The majority of the characters have fascinating arcs. Moiraine, Egwene, Nynaeve, and even Rand all appear to have developed excellently. However, Mat and Perrin’s characters seem to be overlooked this season, and they are the least fascinating and captivating of the bunch.

The episode ends on an intriguing cliffhanger. The episode opened with a glimpse into the depths of Moiraine and Siuan Sanche’s relationship. By the end of this episode, Moiraine has no choice but to abandon Siuan, leaving her hurt in the process, and go along with Rand and Lan for a higher purpose.

Given that this is the penultimate episode of the season, it’ll be interesting to see how the plot unfolds in the season finale.
