The Simpsons – Season 35 Episode 6 “Iron Marge” Recap & Review

Iron Marge

Bart is watching a film when a car accident on the street wakes everyone up. Marge gets out wearing a nightwear robe with stains and a charging cord as the belt. Her neighbours lay into her, and Marge feels embarrassed.

Carl introduces Homer to an app called Alarmist where he can post warnings and be “the man for everybody.” Homer is on board. Right after raising his first warning, Homer becomes part of the Alarmy Alarm. Homer’s excitement is fanned, and he’s ready to go all out.

Lisa and Bart decide to buy Marge a nice present for her birthday because she is upset about everything the neighbours said to her. They get some money from Ned for cleaning up two leaves. In the department store, Bart and Lisa stumble upon a spy toy called Junior Operative. They use the money to buy the toy instead of getting Marge’s birthday present.

Marge opens her presents – she has got an iron board cover from both Lisa and Bart. Though she doesn’t say anything, she is visibly sad about not being given the attention she deserves.

While using the eavesdropping tool from their newly bought toy set, Lisa and Bart get to know their mother is sad and feeling unseen. The kids realize they should have done better for the woman who does everything for them. They begin studying her past in a bid to get to know her better. They get to know that Marge used to have a Parrot named Petey who meant the world to her.

Homer is in competition with an old lady to be the number one Alarmist. The duo scare everyone off the park. Minutes later, they fall into a sinkhole where the old lady chokes on a candy. Homer performs a Heimlich manoeuvre to save her. Helping her, he immediately feels that special humane feeling and realizes what matters the most is helping people and their wellbeing – not some stupid alarmist leaderboard.

Lisa and Bart have tracked down Marge’s parrot. They bring it home as a present to Marge. However, the parrot’s show of affection is a bit violent. Marge tells them that Petey is over-possessive and likes to control her life and that she never wanted it in the first place.

The kids apologize for bringing Petey revealing that they did it only to make amends and make her happy. Lisa and Bart reveal Marge is their favourite person in the whole world. Marge is emotional and filled with happiness and love for her kids.

In the end, Marge is seen showing off her new robe to the neighbours that Lisa and Bart have got for her.

The Episode Review

This episode offers a decent narrative that is occasionally funny with bits and pieces of stale humor here and there. The latest episode is much less complex than previous episodes this season though. If you have been a Simpsons fan, you might say it’s a watchable episode. On the other hand, for someone who’s a fan of nice animated sitcoms,  there isn’t anything to keep them excited for the upcoming episodes. Is The Simpsons going to bounce back? What do you think?
