The Simpsons Season 35 Episode 10 “Do the Wrong Thing” Recap & Review

Do the Wrong Thing

Abe Simpson is retiring from fishing after an illustrious career, and passing along his talent to Homer. He enrolls Homer for a fishing contest, and the latter is understandably under pressure. Lisa requests Principal Skinner to write her a letter of recommendation to join a renowned student camp.

Homer wins the fishing competition. Back home, Bart reveals he added weight to his fish so he could win the contest. Homer can’t thank Bart enough. Next day, Homer makes Bart join him in more contests so they can cheat and win.

The father-son duo win the stone skipping contest, but their hunger for trophies just keeps rising. They go on to win many more contests – through cheating of course.

Marge and Lisa realize Homer and Bart are onto something. When Marge confronts Homer about it, he confesses to cheating. But his reason for cheating isn’t glory. Instead, it’s only because it’s brought him close to his son.

Lisa is invited to the camp. However, she finds out that she only got selected because someone uploaded fake photos of her rowing. Lisa doubts it was Homer who did it, however, Marge reveals it was her. Homer and Bart blame themselves for corrupting Marge.

The Simpsons are taken to the University of Springfield Camp. The Dean of Campers informs Lisa that they embrace cheating, and most of the applications they receive are full of embellishments. Subsequently, Lisa rejects the offer as being honest is more important to her than any achievement.

The Episode Review

This one’s an improvement over the previous episodes. Sandwiched between the main and subplots is an important lesson on honesty. More punchlines would’ve made the episode a bit more engaging. That said, the storyline is still enjoyable. Where do you think this season is headed?
