The Silent Service – Episode 6 Recap, Review & Ending Explained

Seabat Enters Tokyo Bay

Episode 6 of The Silent Service begins with the Japanese PM rethinking his decision to double-cross the US President. He is uncertain about whether they can trust Kaide, but other officials are adamant that Japan needs to prioritize its own interests rather than focusing solely on bilateral relations.

The prime minister of Japan ultimately decided to support Kaide and asked for complete transparency. Meanwhile, Kaide calls the PM of Japan, who greets him as the leader of Yamato.

Does Japan confirm relation with Yamato?

After the call with the PM of Japan, a meeting is arranged, and Japan shows a positive response to strengthening the bilateral relationship. Having been raised in a Japanese environment, the US President is well aware of the principles that Japan upholds. He is particularly impressed by Japan’s commitment to not manufacturing, using or interfering in nuclear warfare.

Due to this, the American President is very positive about developing relations with Japan, as he understands that he cannot accomplish much without the support of other countries. Therefore, he takes the first step towards building a relationship between Japan and Yamato.

However, in Japan, there is still uncertainty about whether to recognize and develop relationships with Yamato. Even Wataru is unsure, but he believes that Japan’s decisions should not be influenced by America.

The PM of Japan confirms relations with Yamato by announcing it in a press conference. He also reveals everything about the Sea Bat project that was previously kept hidden from the public.

What happens to Captain Ryan?

Kaide sees Captain Ryan as an asset and a dear friend. Ryan sits unharmed on the boat while the decision regarding the bilateral relationship between Japan and Yamato is being made. Despite expectations that America will demand the return of Captain Ryan, they show no interest in their soldier.

However, Japan convinces Kaide to release Captain Ryan, and since Kaide has no intention of keeping him, he readily agrees. The prime minister of Japan announces the same during a press conference.

On the scheduled day of discussion, America plans to nab Kaide in Tokyo Bay following his meeting with the Prime Minister of Japan. They instruct the 7th Fleet to remain at a safe distance and refrain from direct action to avoid harming Ryan.

Before Kaide boards the boat to enter Japan, he bids farewell to Captain Ryan. Moreover, he is ensured by the Japanese government that Ryan will be returned safe and sound to the Americans.

What does the US President say to the Japanese President?

Kaide and the crew say goodbye to Captain Ryan and prepare for their meeting with the Prime Minister of Japan. The Japanese government also sends the JMSDF to bring Kaide to the mainland of Japan. The stage was being set, and everyone, including the US President and his diplomats, tuned into the live broadcast.

The US President makes a final call to the PM of Japan and warns him that forming a coalition with a “terrorist state” will jeopardize Japan’s position in the UN. The PM of Japan counters and states that Kaide is not a terrorist and that the UN is biased towards powerful countries. This frustrates the US President, as he realizes he has lost control.

Wataru, the Chief Cabinet Officer, is present at the port to welcome Kaide. Fukamachi is still upset with the decision and asks the higher-ups to think twice, but he knows there is little he can do. Kaide arrives at the hall, shakes hands with the PM of Japan, and takes his seat to discuss the terms, marking the end of season 1.

The Episode Review

Episode 6 left us feeling a bit let down, to be honest. It felt like there were a lot of loose ends, and the stakes didn’t really pay off like we hoped they would. Plus, it was kind of disappointing how Captain Doyle, who could’ve been a great antagonist, didn’t get much of a chance to shine.

From the start, the entire season was building up for something bigger, but we didn’t really get a satisfying finale. That said, the series still had its strong points.

The acting was solid, the action scenes were well done, and you could tell the writers did their homework when it came to the military jargon. So, if you’re into binging military shows, it’s definitely worth giving it a shot. Who knows, maybe the next season will really knock it out of the park!
