The Simpsons – Season 35 Episode 12 “Lisa Gets an F1” Recap & Review

Lisa Gets an F1

As the latest episode of The Simpsons starts, Lisa is seen driving a Formula One car. The next scene takes us two months earlier to Lisa being scared of Homer’s driving. Lisa’s counsellor informs the Simpson family that Lisa is suffering from anxiety and resulting loss of control. The counsellor adds that the main cause of Lisa’s anxiety is Homer’s careless driving. Homer, as usual, isn’t ready to accept his fault. The doctor suggests exposure treatment (interaction with one’s phobia) to ease Lisa’s anxiety issues.

Lisa is introduced to Go-Karts. She immediately begins enjoying the thrill of speed. In no time, Lisa becomes a professional racing driver. Media is all over Lisa and her career. The upcoming KF1 season is set to take place in Springfield. Lisa is one of the favourites to win the championship.

Meanwhile, an Italian student in the school isn’t doing good. Seeing an opportunity, Bart decides to exploit his situation.

Lisa is ready for the first international race of her life. Homer and Marge are in the audience to cheer for Lisa. The girl wins the race with a phenomenal performance.

Having beaten her anxiety issues, Lisa thanks Homer for his ‘unhinged driving’ that allowed her to face her fears.

Elsewhere, Bart and his new friend are having a party in Principal Skinner’s office. Bart’s foreign friend is Lisa’s arch-rival. He pays Bart to say terrible things about Lisa unaware of the fact that she is his sister.

A concerned Homer tries to stop Lisa from continuing racing. During one of the races, the Italian boy discovers Bart’s relationship with Lisa. Subsequently, he ends his friendship with Bart.

Bart gets a message on his phone that Lisa’s car has been rigged. During the race, Lisa’s car loses a wheel and brakes. However, a highly worried Homer drives onto the race track in style to rescue Lisa. Homer tows Lisa’s car to the finish line. In the end, the father and daughter share a tight hug.

The Episode Review

The episode in question is kind of a mess. The storyline doesn’t really have a backbone, and all that happens here seems pointless. The last episode was an upgrade over the previous episodes but this latest episode has put the season back on its sinking trajectory.
