Spy X Family – Season 2 Episode 6 Recap & Review

The Fearsome Luxury Cruise Ship

Episode 6 of Spy X Family Season 2 begins with Yor’s friends discussing how unfair it is that Yor got to go on a luxury cruise ship. We cut to Matthew and his colleagues eating dinner with Grey, Olka, and Olka’s son. Matthew tells Yor not to panic since the assassins and her family won’t enter this area of the ship.

Yor and Olka return to Olka’s quarters. She tells Olka that it’d be unwise to let their guard down. Olka wishes everything were normal so she could spend quality time with her son. Olka asks Yor what will happen if they escape with their lives intact. Yor says everyone will stand by and that the director will inform the city-hall workers (who don’t know the truth about this operation) about other things.

Olka tells Yor she should enjoy her time with her family when the fateful third day dawns upon them. After a funny conversation between Anya and Loid ensues, we follow Matthew, Grey, and the two city hall workers. A mysterious man looks at them and Matthew detects something off about this gentleman. Matthew excuses himself from the group and follows the man. The man hides behind a corner. Matthew apprehends the man and asks him if he’s an assassin and working for Leonardo Harpoon. The man says he’s not working with anyone as all the assassins involved are working on their own. He confirms there’s a man on the ship who is dishing out intel to all the participating assassins.

Matthew takes Grey to his room after killing and throwing this man’s body off the ship. He interrogates Grey about this situation since he’s certain they are operating in secrecy. Grey tells Matthew he only called his parents a few days ago. Matthew wonders why everything isn’t going according to his plan. Suddenly, an assassin (disguised as a room service employee) arrives to take Olka and her son’s head. However, Matthew and Yor stop him. Matthew informs Yor of the current situation and asks her to take Olka and her son to the second class room. He asks Yor to avoid fighting any more assassins and hands Yor a mask to hide her face.

The informant updates the assassins about the current predicament. One of the assassins urges the others that they should work together and split the reward money. Another assassin suggests murdering any mother and child pair, and the lead assassin has him killed and removed from the ship. The lead says if they want to get paid, it’s best for them to not cause any commotion on the ship. He asks the informant to continue providing them with intel.

Yor takes Grey and Olka to a masquerade party since they’ll be able to blend in with their masks. Upon arriving at the event, Yor senses bloodlust brewing in the area, indicating several assassins are present. Yor plans to defeat the assassins quietly and manages to take one of them down. However, another assassin spots her in the act and says it’s best to target the blond and avoid Yor. Yor defeats another assassin and urges Grey and Olka to pick up the pace.

On the ship’s 4th deck, Anya and Loid visit a shop. Anya begs Loid to buy her a skeleton keychain but he refuses. Loid deduces that there are wiretaps placed throughout the ship and says he’s spotted several suspicious people on the ship. He questions if any of them work for the State Security Police. Loid buys Anya the keychain to avoid suspicion.

Anya overhears an assassin named Barnaby discussing his ploy to go against the other assassins’ wishes. She spots Yor with Olka and Grey and worries Loid will discover Yor’s secret occupation. Anya tries stalling Loid. Loid is confused by Anya’s attitude. A woman asks Loid if he’d like to try on some attire but Loid says he doesn’t have time for that. Anya says he should loosen up and act more cheerful. Loid agrees and follows the worker to the dressing room.

The episode concludes with Barnaby pulling a sneak attack on Yor and Yor realizing his strength.

The Episode Review

The cruise arc continues picking up with intense action and interesting developments for the Forger family. From Yor’s encounters with the random assassins to Loid spotting suspicious activity on the ship, this is the type of scenario the series desperately needed. At the same time, fans of the show’s slice-of-life and comedic scenarios will adore the brief ounces of humor we receive between Anya and Loid. Their interactions never fail to make folks smile and giggle.

At the same time, it’s great knowing some assassins are stronger than others on the ship. While it makes sense narratively, it makes matters more engaging since we’ve barely seen Yor struggle against anyone in this anime. From her confrontations with Fiona in season one to her defeating several assassins on this boat, it’ll be nice to see someone push her to her limits for a change. Although Loid doesn’t want to get involved with these suspicious people, many may wonder if his spy-like urges will kick in soon. We’ll have to wait and see if there’ll be an event that’ll convince him to stick his nose in this business.

Overall, this was a fun episode of Spy X Family Season 2. While the season started slow, it feels like matters are picking up. Many are thrilled to finally see Yor complete tasks in her line of work instead of being a goofy motherly figure. Hopefully, this arc continues expanding upon its tension with more thrilling and emotional situations involving our cast.
