Has Uncoupled been renewed for Season 2? Here’s what we know:

Renewed Or Cancelled?

Uncoupled on Netflix is best described as a spiritual companion piece by the same creator (Darren Star) of Sex & the City. All elements of the story and plot move in a similar way to give you thoughtful musings about separating from a long-standing relationship, changing sensibilities about courtship, and navigating a daunting world alone.

Neil Patrick Harris stars as the main man with a good supporting cast. Season 1 came and went like a breeze. Post watching a show, we all like to know whether or not it will come back for another season. Here is what we know about the renewal/cancellation status of Uncoupled:

What is Uncoupled about?

Michael Lawson (Harris) is in perfectinschlaag. His real estate agency is booming; his relationship with his partner of 17 years, Colin (Tuc Watkins) is going solid; and, he also has a surprise birthday party planned for Colin. The rug is swept from under his feet as Colin reveals to him just as the party starts that he is separating. Colin keeps minimal contact with him and doesn’t give him a worthy explanation as to why he left Michael. The initial positivity of them coming back together is thrown into limbo when Colin texts him they cannot work together anymore.

From there on in, Michael, with the encouragement and support of his best friends Stanley, Billy and Susanne, takes baby steps into the new dating world. In the process, he learns new truths both about himself and the new world that was shut off to him for almost two decades. He takes several partners in order to get over Colin but there is something far more serious-minded he must let go of.

Has Uncoupled been renewed for season 2?

At the time of writing, Uncoupled has been canceled for season 2 according to The Hollywood Reporter

Netflix had cancelled the show but there’d been some hope as it had been picked up by Showtime. Filming was on halt due to the Hollywood strike but as of March 2024, even Showtime has dropped the show.

Uncoupled has been praised for its unique perspective on the dating world through the lens of an old player. Season 1 brought into focus how the social norms about courtship and relationships have changed in times gone by. Uncoupled has also had solid ratings both on IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes.

What we know about season 2 so far

Nothing is known since the show has been canceled. Should it get picked up by another platform, season 2 may pick up from the thrilling, and rather ambiguous, season 1 finale. People have much to look forward to story-wise and how Colin and Michael’s relationship will progress – if at all.

Colin lets himself into Michael’s apartment and says that “he has made a big mistake”. Although its nature wasn’t specified, and many are right about that, what else could the “mistake” be? The apartment? Given how Colin agreed to give up the house on Suzanne’s advice, it seems bizarre to think that he will want it back.

Although it is not fair to jump to conclusions, Colin, in all probability, has come back to realize his mistake in the relationship. Maybe he saw a changed Michael at the wedding and rethought the breakup. While the reasons for the same weren’t clear in the first place, general indications suggest that it had to do with Michael’s self-indulgence.

Even other subplots were left off at a sweet spot. Stanley and his battle with cancer; Billy and his epiphany of losing the cool playboy image and making more sincere attempts to create meaningful relationships; and Suzanne, finally seeing the father of his child.

Above all that, the charming mystery around Jack and Claire also remains. So, there is so much to look forward to in season 2 of Uncoupled.

We’ll be sure to update this page in the future when more information is known though!
