What is The Snow Girl Season 1 about?

There are primarily three timelines – 2010, 2016, and 2019. The show jumps across the three phases to showcase how the trajectory of the investigation into the disappearance of Amaya Martin went. Miren Rojo is a talented and upcoming journalism intern at Diario Sur in 2010.

She lives alone and carries the trauma of rape from a couple of years back. Influential couple Ana and Alvaro Martin’s only daughter is kidnapped on the day of the local parade in Malaga. Detectives Belen and Chaparro head the investigation but are not able to get to the end of the line, despite promising leads.

We see the transformation of the case and the characters as the timelines keep developing. Nothing is too straightforward for the viewers. But the non-linear storytelling does not create problems.

Has The Snow Girl been renewed for season 2?

At the time of writing this, The Snow Girl has been renewed for a season 2 according to the author, Castillo’s tweet.

The Netflix show is based on the book La chica de nieve by Javier Castillo with some key changes. The author has penned another novel that shares the same universe as season 1.

While the exact contents of it are not yet clear, one can respect that the show’s season 2 can pick up directly from that point on. Elements can be borrowed from the book and from the morphed events in season 1 to script the plot.

What we know about season 2 so far:

Season 1 ends with Miren getting a threatening package from her rapists with a photo of her on the beach. It might even be someone who has accessed the video on the Slide platform. But what we do know is that Miren’s demons are back to haunt her.

Even though she has won the moral victory, now that she is famous, people will start clamoring to get their own moment of reckoning. Miren might be seen solving her own mystery for now, which will be as moving and intense to watch.
