Renewed Or Cancelled?
The Empire is the latest weekly JTBC drama, blending thriller, romance and law together with a pretty stacked cast. If you’ve been following this one, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Well, wonder no more! Here’s what we know about a renewal:
What is The Empire Season 1 about?
The Empire takes place in the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office, where Han Hye Ryul is the chief of the special division. She comes from a family of judicial workers who have had wealth and power for three generations.
However, Hye Ryul is ambitious and not satisfied with her current position, aiming to become a prosecutor general. The thing is, her mother and father are using the law as tools to make more money and protect their status, setting up a conflict of interest.
Has The Empire been renewed for season 2?
At the time of writing, JTBC have not renewed The Empire for season 2. Given the ratings over the weeks, it’ll be interesting to see if they actually do renew this for a follow-up.
The ratings began with a 2.3% share nationwide but since then, the show has been all over the place, with lows of 1.8% and highs of 3.4%. This sporadic nature, especially against some stiff competition over the weekend, makes it a rather volatile series, ratings-wise.
This volatility, alongside the fact that most k-dramas wrap up their stories in a single season, reinforces that it’s going to be very unlikely that this is renewed. With all things considered, we predict The Empire will not be renewed.

What we know about season 2 so far:
Most Korean dramas are reserved to one season and with the rare exception of ongoing Netflix shows (Love ft. Marriage and Divorce, Hospital Playlist etc.) then it seems unlikely that this one will be renewed.
However, there is always the possibility that the actors return for a follow-up for a sequel or a spin-off featuring the same characters. But regardless, we don’t see this one as being renewed.

J’ai bien aimé la série et je trouve qu’il serait bien qu’il y ait une suite, car après avoir visionner le dernier épisode, je me suis demandée ce qu’il advient du véritable tueur de la jeune étudiante.
