What is Romantic Killer Season 1 about?

This series revolves around a high-school freshman named Anzu who is living a great life as a shut-in. She enjoys playing video games, spending time with her cat Momohiki, and eating endless supplies of chocolate. One day, Anzu receives a new video game in the mail and decides to play it. She’s weirded out by it and realizes it’s the wrong game. Regardless, she presses on.

Suddenly, a wizard-like creature named Riri enters her world through her TV, startling her. Riri explains that Anzu is their company’s first test subject in their plan to fix Japan’s dwindling population. To do so, they hired Riri to assist Anzu in helping her achieve romance. To ensure Anzu follows their plan, Riri confiscates Anzu’s favorite hobbies and has her parents sent away on a trip with her beloved cat Momohiki.

Riri promises to return the items once Anzu falls in love with one of the Ikemen (good-looking men) he has lined up for her. To spite Riri, Anzu plans to become a Romantic Killer, a being who can defy all romance. She hopes that her consistent lack of interest in romantic affairs will provoke Riri to quit and return her life to normal. Unfortunately, her plans are thwarted when she meets Tsukasa, a popular Ikemen in her school.

Has Romantic Killer been renewed for season 2?

At the time of writing, Romantic Killer has not been renewed for a second season. Given the nature of the show’s content, that could well change if it does good numbers for Netflix.

Generally Netflix gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly (ala. Squid Game, Bridgerton & Irregulars) Other times, it can take months before Netflix make a decision over a show’s future.

So far, Romantic Killer has had a really good reaction from audiences and critics alike, with plenty of anime action and some really nice animation. Fans seem to be resonating with this one but of course, it all comes down to that drop-off rate.

Given the way this show is set up and that big cliffhanger at the end of season 1, we predict that this will be renewed for a second season. This is the perfect sort of show to binge through and the cliffhanger, promising more to come, seems to be indicative that the creators are confident this will get the nod for a follow-up.

What we know about season 2 so far:

Barely anything is known about season 2 at this point, given Netflix have not green-lit a sequel. However, there’s a very good case for another season to follow.

If this is renewed, expect the story to pick up where it left off from before, with Anzu’s romantic life advancing as expected but clearly with more bumps in the road to come.

  14. PLEASE MAKE A SEASON 2!!! I want Anzu and Tsukasa to end up together simply because they compliment each other so well. Anzu has been the only one to break down his walls and get him to open up. That kitchen scene with them hugging and crying solidified my thoughts on this. And I think we all wanna know what happens with the stalker too based off the ending of season one. Netflix better get on this!!!

    The Romantic Killer had me laughing till it hurt. I loved how she’d go into her game characters!! What a hoot! It was clean, not raunchy, great reactions, awsome characters, all in all great piece of work. A second season would be great to watch I’m very entertaining to. I’ve watched season one five times already and I still laughed my head off.

  27. Was skeptical about watching this show, but after episode 3 I was hooked on it and laughed so much. There were times the feels got so close and it made me more invested. This was more than a typical romantic comedy, it had a good blend of comedy without making it over the top.

    Really enjoyed it and I pray we’ll get a season two.

    If this is based on a manga, then I’ll start collecting/reading it too.

  29. Riri and Anzu are endgame, hands down, point blank, PERIODT. Kazuki is way too predictable. Riri is the only character that Anzu has explicitly, out loud expressed the possibility of falling in love with – .0001% chance is more than 0% chance, which is what all the others have at this point, as even they recognize that she only views them as friends. This matters. Riri is it, folks. Riri wins.

  32. YEAH FR FR IT IS HITTING DIFFERENTLY. I LAUGHED A LOT OF TIMES NGL THIS SHOW HAS A GOOD SENSE OF HUMOR, we better get a season two very good would recommend it. BUT I TELL YOU ANZU BETTER GET WITH KAZUKI. this is not a threat I swear, and I disagree with anybody who wants Rio/RiRi to get with Anzu. stop it and get some help in my opinion

    We need to see how her relationships will evolve as well as her bestfriend debuting lovestory… We saw a small part of Riri dark side we need more… I’m not usually watching romance anime but this one is a “PEPITE”

I need to see more of riri I got really emotional when they was leaving I’m so happy Anzio got them back also with the new rules and her saying herself she doesn’t need to hold back from falling in love anymore, I think the next season would be just perfect, adorable, and full of laughs just like season 1.

  36. I just finished watching it! I was planning to watch it when I saw the trailer on Youtube. It was fun. I enjoyed it, but whenever the FL gets her moments with her other potential love interests (Junta.. and Hijiri especially), I get really bored and frustrated.. and the story seems to be getting boring.. But then that stalker incident happened, and it gave me hope for FL-Kazuki focus again! Hope she really ends up with Kazuki! T—T Junta isn’t so bad, but.. it’s kinda boring.. idk.. feels kinda lame, although he’s a good guy and all! Sigh..

    Also, the romance development here feels similar to Fruits Basket. I’m happy with who the FL ended up there, so I’m positively hoping the same’s gonna happen here! I want to see the end already even just in the manga! T—-T

  37. I’ve already watched a bunch of anime out there but this one really hits diff😭Comedy action, somewhat like tragedy and etc…it’s all in this one…the so called cliffhanger is just so good that it makes me wish that season 2 could be available to watch tomorrow, 😭😭

  42. I loved the anime. I started watching it one night and finished it the next morning because I was up watching it all night. I really want another season for the anime. I honestly want Anzu to be with Tsukasa Kazuki. It was really entertaining and interesting.
