Lovers of the Red Sky is a supernaturally charged k-drama currently streaming on Viki.

Generally each episode can be found there shortly after broadcast on Mondays and Tuesdays, with the hard-working subtitle team translating quickly.

This 16 episode drama has been consistently decent over the weeks, releasing with the usual two episodes a week.

What is Lovers of the Red Sky Season 1 about?

Lovers of the Red Sky is set deep in the Joseon period and revolves around a female painter called Cheon-Ki. Her enthusiasm lights this show up, with a growing love triangle involving Prince Yangmyung and Scholar Ha (Ha-Ram).

The latter pair know each other from childhood, with a dark demon haunting a painting a key part of this tale.

Has Lovers of the Red Sky been renewed for season 2?

At the time of writing, SBS has not renewed Lovers of the Red Sky for season 2. Given the strong ratings over the weeks, it’ll be interesting to see if they actually do renew this for a follow-up.

The ratings began with a respectable 6.6% nationwide and has been growing steadily, even increasing to highs of 10.2% during episode 5. Given this is an early-week drama, that’s very impressive.

Based on this there is a possibility that Red Sky will be renewed. However, given most k-dramas wrap up their stories in a single season – especially historical dramas – , we predict that Lovers of the Red Sky will not be renewed.

We’ll be sure to update this section with more details as the season progresses though.

What we know about season 2 so far:

Most Korean dramas are reserved to one season and with the rare exception of ongoing Netflix shows (Love ft. Marriage and Divorce, Hospital Playlist etc.) then it seems unlikely that this one will be renewed.

  1. J ai adoré cette série elle peut pas finir sur cette fin j aimerait voir une suite le combat des 2 frères et le retour des amoureux Ha-ram et cheon ki

  3. Realmente a estoria dos irmaos ficou inacabada, e afeta tbem a do casal, se o irmao mau vencer eles tbem serao perseguidos, da vontad ede rir, mas como é recente quem sabe? apesar de que não e´comum.

  4. Seems episode 16 is unfinished dialogue between the characters eq. Hwacha, Sam him and the Two Royals as well as the Red Sky Lovers. I would definitely enjoy a sequel to this K-Drama! Season two is a must!

  5. While one arc of the story seems to have concluded, the clash between brothers sets this drama up for a second season! I would love to see more!

  8. I loved this drama but I can’t imagine it continuing. I am good with one season. I am looking forward to another season on Hospital Playlist and Love, Marriage and Divorce.
