Kleo is a deliciously dark revenge thriller. Set deep in the heart of Germany in 1990, this aesthetically pleasing series is a bloody good time! If you’ve finished watching this one, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Here’s what we know:

What is Kleo about?

Set in Germany, right across 1989 and 1990 (during the time of the Berlin Wall falling), Kleo actually doesn’t start off as an outright revenge thriller. Instead, the show emanates an espionage vibe as we follow Stasi assassin Kleo Straub. Hired off the books, Kleo is a proficient agent, working on behalf of her grandfather to take out various targets.

After killing a man in a West German nightclub, police – and in particular an officer called Sven – start to piece together who this woman is. When she’s subsequently arrested while heavily pregnant, with her grandfather and everyone she works with testifying against her, Kleo takes the fall and end up behind bars with a life sentence. That’s not good, and the heartbreaking betrayal continues when Kleo loses her baby too.

Consumed by anger and vengeance, Kleo bides her time. When the Berlin Wall falls and all political prisoners are free to go, Kleo sets out on a bloody revenge mission to gain some sweet payback from those responsible for putting her in prison.

Has Kleo been renewed for season 2?

At the time of writing, Kleo has been renewed for a second season. Given the nature of the show’s format, that’s fantastic news. Deadline confirmed this in an exclusive article several days ago.

Generally Netflix gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate.

With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly (ala. Squid Game, Bridgerton & Irregulars) Other times, it can take months before Netflix make a decision over a show’s future.

So far, Kleo has had a pretty good reception with most critics giving this show decent reviews and audiences (at the time of writing) pretty positive on this one. This is ultimately one of those thrillers that could very easily run for another season, given that cliffhanger ending and we’re so happy that it’s returning!

What we know about season 2 so far:

Barely anything is known about season 2 at this point, given Netflix have only just green-lit a sequel. The conclusion does open things up for a follow-up though.

If this one is renewed, we could well see the contents of that red suitcase in the US revealed, with ourselves predicting that it’s an explosive of some sort. Meanwhile, Uwe and Margot are going to be out for revenge, while Kleo and Sven’s severed ties could result in a showdown between the two as well.

For now though, we’ll be counting down the days until season 2.

  7. There has to be more seasons of this with the same 2 main characters , I absolutely loved this and the 2 main characters work well together like strawberries and cream , sponge cake and custard , fish and chips , yous all get the drift hahahaha hope Netflix do make more seasons .

  8. Certainly needs a second series after the unfinished threads at the end. I loved the reminders of the DDR and the blinkered world-view of the Stasi and Politbüro members.and the machinations of the BND and CIA as the wall came down. Jella Haase was great at portraying her many faceted character. I barely recognised her from her role in the Fuck You Goethe films.

  10. Brilliant show I remember the Berlin wall coming down , the techno scene kids in to all sorts , brilliant plot , with so many twists and turn , and their faces when they opened the case on its contents lmao , I watched the series in two nights was so addictive , when’s series 2 coming ?

  18. I loved it from the beginning , totally unexpected things happens, lots off humor , Love Kleo and Sven and the other caracters . We watched it in 2 days. It, like , dont take it to serious , just entertainment .

  20. So much potential for more adventures. Minor characters like Ramona, Uwe and Min Sun can have the opportunity to be fleshed out. Maybe Holger can make a comeback?

  21. I think there should be a season 2 of Kleo. The final scene left me with some questions indeed: the content of the red cases and the way Min Sun looked after she walked away when she deliverd ‘her’ red case..

    But I also think that Kleo was a great mixture of styles. It was a bit over the top like a mixture of directors like The Coen Brothers (the humor), David Lynch (the sometimes absurd scenes with Thilo )and Quentin Tarantino (the some over the top violence).

    This is one of the best serie I have watched in 2022 (besides Stranger Things ofcours).

  23. Kleo is the right amount of intrigue, color, comedy, believability and suspense. Creatively portrayed, she is a man without a country. She doesn’t need one. But she does need answers. Following her finding them is great-fun cinema. For a network that’s gold.
    Renew, please.

  24. just finished the series. great actor development, interesting relationships. the problem is that when we really like a series/show, it is the ‘kiss of death’; consequently, bye, bye kleo.

  30. We lived in BRD from 1988 until 2004. This show really captures the Wende (fall of the wall) and the chaos of that period perfectly. Hope to see a second season and more!

  31. I’m 60. was in Berlin when Wall came down went to east Berlin and met people with her beliefs.Netflix put another series on. This one was wonderbar .especially with Russia invading Ukraine

  35. Season 2, YES! And then season 3 through 9. The show is fun, exciting, funny, interesting, and seems to run all over the world. I loved it!

  39. That was a great show! I loved it. There definitely has to be a season two of Kleo! The only bad part about the show is having to wait for season two! Jells Haase Was incredible. Quirky, funny, sexy and a real bad ass. One of the best series on Netflix.

  45. loved the whole production. scorpions towards end of finales was amazing atmospherics. And Thilo!! what was that about? I dont kmow if another season would be better, i’ll just watch this one again
