Renewed Or Cancelled?
Hard Cell is the latest mockumentary on Netflix, a project created and written by Catherine Tate who fans may remember as the frontrunner of The Catherine Tate Show back in the day.
This 6 episode comedy has been quite the turbulent ride, but after that shocking ending you may be wondering whether this one has been renewed or not.
What is Hard Cell about?
Hard Cell revolves around a female prison called Woldsley. The inmates are buzzing over news that they’re going to be starring in a brand new musical, with Laura Willis (Catherine Tate), the governor, overseeing proceedings.
Fleshing out this world are a number of different characters. There’s new inmate Angela Brooks (Catherine Tate), who finds a target painted on her back given she’s the newbie.
There’s also male prison officer Marco (Catherine Tate) alongside Gary (Peter Singh) who are by far the better characters, while Ros (Catherine Tate) is an Irish inmate who has a thing for tattoos.
There are a number of other stereotypical players too, but with the exception of Ros, Laura and Angela, the rest of the ensemble don’t have much of an arc.

Has Hard Cell been renewed for season 2?
At the time of writing, Hard Cell has not been renewed for a second season. However, given the nature of the shocking ending, that could change.
Generally Netflix gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly (ala. Squid Game, Bridgerton & Irregulars) Other times, it can take months before Netflix make a decision over a show’s future.
So far, Hard Cell has had a rather mixed reception from both critics and audiences alike.
Given the nature of that ending, but also combining that with Tate’s own comments recently on Radio Times (You can read that here) we’re going out on a limb and predicting that Hard Cell will not be renewed for a second season.

What we know about season 2 so far:
Barely anything is known about season 2 at this point, given Netflix have not green-lit a sequel. However, the conclusion does leave the main plot line somewhat resolved, although the ambiguousness of the cliffhanger could allow a surprise renewal on the cards.
If Netflix do decide to renew this, expect the tone to shift slightly to something more melodramatic as the seriousness of the shock end comes into effect.

I loved the show and I hope it’s renewed.
Slow to start with, however the intriguing characters make you want to get to know more about them. A very different ending to one that I had envisaged. PLEASE LET THERE BE ANOTHER SERIES.
I love shows about prisons. Of course if they’re funny that’s even better. I hope it’s renewed. I’ve told all my friends about it.
Seriously, if ever there a show that should have more seasons, this is one! I cannot even imagine there NOT being more!
It definitely improved each episode and I think there is potential for great success. Please at least give Deep Cell a chance. All the necessary elements of a good story told with quirky yet loveable characters facing life together with unsuspected menace in the midst.
I hope they bring this back. Catherine Tate was remarkable! So much talent!
I loved it! Would really like to see where they take the story line.
