Has Culprits been renewed for Season 2? Here’s what we know:

Renewed or Cancelled?

Culprits is a new heist/drama show on Hulu and Disney+ that smartly weaves its two timelines. Season 1 is eight episodes long, each running close to an hour.

Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, and Gemma Arterton are the star attractions on the cast roster which also includes promising names like Niamh Algar and Tara Abboud. The series first became available to watch in the UK back in November and premiered in the US and other geographies recently this month.

If you’ve finished watching this one, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Here’s what we know so far:

What is Culprits Season 1 about?

Culprits operates in two timelines, “then” and “now.” The past timeline focuses on a crew assembled by feared crime boss Dianne Harweood in London, England. The crew includes our protagonist, David Markings, a.k.a Muscle. The crew’s big heist involved stealing money from a secure vault behind reinforced concrete that belonged to a man called Vincent Hawkes. This man has come back for revenge in the present timeline, where we follow our protagonist, Joe Petrus, who has started a new life.

Hawkes has sent a contractor to hunt down all the members of the crew and seek what he desires. Unbeknownst to the others, Dianne took a key from the site of the heist, which Hawkes desperately wants back. The series progresses forward as the remaining members of the crew band together to preserve each other and finish the threat once and for all.

Has Culprits been renewed for Season 2?

Culprits has yet to be been renewed or cancelled by Hulu and Star. Given the reception of the first season, it is highly possible that we might get an announcement soon.

Generally, Hulu and Star, like other streamers, gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly (ala. Squid Game, Bridgerton etc.) Other times, it can take months before streamers decide a show’s future.

The show has been praised for the clever handling of its complex subject matter. Because there is a lot of story to tell and a lot of characters to develop, it was a tectonic task for the creators. But they have done the execution admirably. We have not heard anything from the creators or the cast about any renewal plans. It is not uncharacteristic for such renewal decisions to get dragged on.

We are not too optimistic about the renewal decision. That is purely because Season 1 in and of itself gives closure to the viewers and leaves the story on a satisfying note. Therefore, we don’t think the network will order a renewal. We might be wrong but that’s our honest assessment as of now. This page will be updated as and when new details become available!

What do we know about Season 2 so far:

Not much is known about season 2 at the time of writing, given that Hulu has not renewed the show. It will be fair to assume that the new season – if it happens – will pick up from a new tangent of the same story.

We saw that Dianne and her crew emerged from the tricky situation with Vincent Hawkes in the end. Although his crypto box was destroyed, Dianne only wanted revenge for what he did to her family. Joe went back to his partner Jules and the kids in Canada, who accepted him despite his troubling past.

Most of the characters should return for the next season other than Officer who was unexpectedly killed off right in the final moments of Season 1. We’ll be sure to update this section with more information as it becomes available.

  1. I really enjoyed the suspenseful and vigorating storyline of this TV show. I would really love if there would be a second season. I have watched it every Monday and could not wait to watch it the following weeks.
