We Were The Lucky Ones is the latest miniseries on Hulu and Disney, taking us back to the horrors of pre-World War II. With compelling characters and a decent story, this one has been quite the intriguing watch.
So, after watching this show, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Here’s what we know:
What is We Were The Lucky Ones about?
We Were The Lucky Ones is a historical drama which maps a family’s quest to survive when hate goes unchecked in the years immediately prior to World War II. The show is adapted from Georgia Hunter’s New York Times bestselling book sporting the same name which is inspired by real life events of her family.
The story follows the heart-wrenching and inspiring journey of the Kurcs, Polish Jews, whose peaceful lives of joy and abundance is turned upside-down with Hitler’s anti-Jew campaigns. What follows are concentration camps, frantic escapades and series of generational trauma as the family try to find each other after the war ends – because they were, indeed, the lucky ones.
Has We Were The Lucky Ones been renewed for season 2?
At the time of writing, We Were The Lucky Ones has not been renewed for season 2.
Generally Hulu and Disney would gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate.
With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly. Other times, it can take months before a decision over a show’s future is made.
So far, We Were The Lucky Ones has had a pretty decent reaction from critics and audiences alike, with many really enjoying the drama and the tight character writing.
Given the way this show is set up as a mini-series, we’re predicting that this will not be renewed for a second season. The series does have plenty of potential but we also know that a lot of studios are tightening their purses this year, given the knock-on effect of the recent strikes.

What we know about season 2 so far:
Barely anything is known about season 2 at this point as Hulu haven’t officially renewed this one. Should it be renewed, we’d imagine that the story will pick up, potentially moving into World War II and beyond, and going beyond the source material too.

This is truly a heart wrenching story and it should be continued to the end of the book, or at least until all the family members are reunited. Please don’t leave us hanging.
The acting is very good. Some of the scenes are difficult to watch because of the dark lighting, but it’s so authentic how can you not continue the miniseries?

Please renew this series. It gives such a strong view of the travesty of the persecution of the Jews in Europe during WWII. It a must for us not to forget.

We were the lucky ones is an outstanding, fabulous mini series. It’s history with amazing actresses and actors. You MUST bring the episodes back until you finish the book. Please!!!!
That’s why I enjoy a miniseries, I usually expect it to be complete. Now we’re unsure if this fabulous program is going to just stop in the middle or complete the story. Very disappointed in the vagueness.
Why do these companies do this … they put out the mini series and just when it gets really good …. They leave you hanging…. Follow up with the next season !!
