Has The Continental been renewed for Season 2? Here’s what we know:

Renewed Or Cancelled?

The Continental is the much-awaited spin-off that fans of the John Wick franchise have been looking forward to. The series is a prequel that narrates the story of Winston Scott and how he came to become the owner of The Continental in New York. The mini-series is set in the 1970s and introduces many new characters to the John Wick universe. At just three episodes long, Paramount decided to release it over the last three weeks. But now Season 1 has concluded and we are in the territory of uncertainty.

If you’ve finished watching this one, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Here’s what we know so far:

What is The Continental Season 1 about?

Season 1 of The Continental: From the World of John Wick is set in the 70s in New York. The show primarily focuses on the Scott brothers, Winston and Frankie. As children, they were brought to the streets by Cormac O’Connor, who now owns the NY Continental. He was a loan shark and the Scott family couldn’t repay the loans on time. While Frankie stayed back in NY and continued to work for Cormac, he helped Winston escape and make a new life for himself in London.

However, when Frankie steals the Coin Press from The Continental’s vault, Winston is brought back by Cormac to answer. Winston seeks out Frankie, who is now married to Yen, a young girl he met while serving in Vietnam. Frankie sacrifices himself as Cormac pursues the trio with his full force. Winston vows to take revenge and take over the Continental by killing Cormac.

He employs the help of brother-sister duo Miles and Lou and the Bowery Queen, Mazie, to concoct a plan to bring down Cormac’s empire. A police officer, KD, fervently searches for revenge of her own. She seeks out Winston for something he and Frankie did decades ago that left a permanent mark on her life.

Has The Continental been renewed for Season 2?

Paramount has not renewed The Continental for a second season. It does not come on the back of the response to the show as the plan had always been to release a single season of a spin-off story set in the same universe as John Wick. It was ordered for three episodes with each having a runtime of roughly an hour and a half.

Generally Paramount, like other networks and streaming platforms, gauges numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly (ala. Squid Game, Bridgerton etc). Other times, it can take months before they make a decision about a show’s future.

The lineup from Paramount for shows and films set in the JWCU is exciting. The Continental has run its course but there is a lot to look forward to in the next two years, starting off with the Ballerina, supposed to be released this year.

What we know about season 2 so far:

As mentioned before, the show will not be returning for a second season. We already know how Winston’s story turned out as he battled tooth and nail against the High Table in the aftermath of his takeover. He stayed in command of The Continental for decades before the events of John Wick 4 and stoutly defended everything it represented to him.

  1. Absolutely! There are so many directions to go and character stories they can tell… at least that’s what I think

  2. This show is absolutely fabulous! I cannot imagine why they would have canceled it, but I’m truly ticked off about it!

  3. Should show John Wick and how he was brought up as a kid, flash forward a few years and we learn how and why he became the boogey man. As far as The Continental season 2, No, it should be back stories like season 1:Winston, season 2: John Wick, so on and so forth. That keeps it fresh and new

  4. Pleeeease come with a Season two…!!! John Wick came many years after the birth of Winston Scott and his reign of the Continental hotel. The story from here can in the 70’s, emerge with many escapades leading up to the John Wick era. So I , like many others that watched the fantastic action packed miniseries, will be hoping for a season two.

  5. John Wick -Baba yaga the origins would make a great series with episodes with his killing everyone with a pencil, the contract he took that was undoable, the contract he helped Hally Berry out with to get her daughter, the list goes on…..his car that maybe was passed down from a mentor and lastly the meeting with Winston and John Wick as friends and as a father figure. High table training centre for all those flood stop action scenes. RANT over…just make more of these entertaining movies that breed a cult following

  6. There is lots they could do moving forward with a season two. Winston is young at the takeover. John Wick series, Winston‘s old. There’s a lot of lost years in there that they could definitely come up with many storylines, many adventures for Winston. I enjoyed it, and I am sure I’ll rewatch it many times. Here is to hoping that they change their minds and continue.

  7. Yes yes yes, there must be, until he meets John Wick, and his friendship grew with Sharon, and his skills leveled up/ Shooting, fighting, and what became of the crew in the future,
