Renewed Or Cancelled?
The Consultant on Prime Video is based on the novel of the same name by Bentley Little and rests somewhere in the middle of reality and fiction. While neither the show nor the book is based on real life, the former has been brought to life by creator Tony Basgallop with familiar sensibilities. The Consultant has an extensive and constantly confronting thematic web with themes like the evolution of humanoids, climbing up the professional ladder, and new corporate life rhetorics. The Consultant has a veiled satirical undertone but it is Christoph Waltz’s starring role as Regus Patoff and his seemingly sinister plot that catches the eye.
The other cast members – Nat Wolff, Brittany O’Grady, and Amy Carerro – give impressive performances as well. Season 1 of The Consultant aired a while back on Prime. The show has received a great reception from critics. However, it has left viewers mostly polarized. After finishing this one, you may be interested to know if it has been renewed. Here’s what we know:
What is The Consultant Season 1 about?
CompWare, a waning mobile gaming company, is in dire straits. Not only has its mercurial creative prodigy Sang-Woo (Brian Lee) been shockingly killed by a school kid Tokyo with a gun, the company is on the verge of wrapping up. Business is down and they have not been able to come up with a hit game for a while. Craig, a talented yet uninspired coder, and Elaine, an eager and ambitious low-level assistant, are just beginning to look for other opportunities when Regus Patoff (Waltz) joins them. He introduces himself as the Consultant, presents the necessary enabling documents, and just takes over.
Elaine and Craig, along with the other employees, and urged to work under Patoff, who seemingly never sleeps and has a dubious past. His strict disciplinarian tactics and strategies do help the business – but at significant personal costs.

Has The Consultant been renewed for season 2?
At the time of writing, Prime Video has not renewed The Consultant for season 2. Given Prime Video’s track record for not renewing a lot of its shows, it’s perhaps only a matter of time before they do announce their decision. Despite the show doing well and creator Tony Basgallop’s successful stint in digital streaming, Prime Video might not be tempted to renew if a star like Waltz is not involved.
Nat Wolff was at hand to give his take on a probably season 2. In an interview with TV Insider, he said “I think it’s always been one of those shows that were meant to be able to continue but also to exist on its own, you know? So, you never know. But I think that all the actors would be really excited to come back because it was like a dream job where the writing and all of the performances were so good you know [with] really good people.”
Generally, Prime Video and other streamers gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly (ala. Squid Game, Bridgerton & Shantaram). Other times, it can take months before a decision over a show’s future is made.
So far, The Consultant has been well received on either end by audiences and critics. While the former are divided, owing to the show’s ambiguity and lack of answers, the critics loved season 1.
Given the way the show is set up, we’re hoping that The Consultant will be renewed for a second season. Even though Prime Video is notorious for keeping a light roster, can they really afford to let the opportunity for season 2 slip by? We do not think so!

What we know about season 2 so far:
Barely anything is known about season 2 at this point as Prime Video has not decided definitively on the show’s future yet. However, it’s likely that this will be renewed, not considering PV’s frugal spending patterns.
If this does get the green light, we can see CompWare being run by Elaine and how Craig bounces back from Pattie leaving him. It will be interesting to see if the dynamic between Elaine and Craig changes. Most importantly, we need answers about Regus Patoff; who he really was and the entire mystery of his origins!
