Has The Burning Girls been renewed for Season 2? Here’s what we know:

Renewed Or Cancelled?

The Burning Girls is a British series based on the novel by C.J. Tudor. The source material is inspired by real events with strong elements of fictional storytelling. Samantha Morton leads the ensemble cast in a momentous performance. The six-part series flirts with the horror genre but is best classified as a slow-burn mystery about unsolved murders and unresolved personal issues from the past.

The first season of The Burning Girls was released on 19 October on Paramount Plus. All the episodes are available to stream on the platform.

If you’ve finished watching this one, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Here’s what we know so far:

What is The Burning Girls Season 1 about?

Season 1 of The Burning Girls is about a multitude of things, all of which happen in Chapel Croft, Sussex. The unremarkable village saw the burning of two little girls and many more back in the 1500s. Since then, the spirit of those girls has haunted the village and defined its hyperlocal beliefs and culture. About thirty years ago, two teenage girls, Merry and Joy, also went missing. They are yet to be found and the case is still open.

Along with them, a young curate of the church, Benjamin Grady also disappeared without notice. Three months from the present day, Reverend Fletcher committed suicide in the chapel. He is replaced by Reverend Jack Brooks, who arrives from Nottingham with her teenage daughter Florence. For them, it is a completely new place and the villagers have a mixed reaction to their welcome.

Flo befriends a local boy, Wrigley, who is seemingly innocuous and often bullied. But he has a dark past that Jack is wary of. Jack sees the spirits of the girls and is determined to find out the truth about what happened to the missing girls and Reverend Fletcher.

Has The Burning Girls been renewed for Season 2?

The Burning Girls has not been renewed for a second season. The show was conceived as a limited series and that is why we will only have a single season. Season 1 is a complete story that does not require a follow-up. It is based on Tudor’s novel, which has been sizeably altered to be adapted. The parts that we do not see in the series are probably not interesting enough for another season.

Generally Paramount, like other networks and streaming platforms, gauges numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly (ala. Squid Game, Bridgerton etc). Other times, it can take months before they make a decision about a show’s future.

On this occasion, don’t expect Season 2.
