Has Monsieur Spade been renewed for Season 2? Here’s what we know:

Renewed or Cancelled?

Samuel Spade’s character might not be the most talked about detective in the world of films. But he is certainly decorated in the annals of literature. The Maltese Falcon and Humphrey Bogart’s iconic portrayal remains the character’s most notable assimilation in the reel world. However, we can assuredly say that AMC’s Monsieur Spade might write a new page in his history.

Clive Owen masterfully captures the essence of Spade in Scott Frank’s big-budget TV comeback. Although he isn’t the singular focus of the narrative, Owen shoulders the responsibility of assisting the story ace through the motions and making a meaningful impact on viewers.

Be sure to read our take on the finale of Season 1. We have consistently covered the show on our website through weekly recaps, which you can find here.

If you’ve been watching this one, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Here’s what we know so far:

What is Monsieur Spade Season 1 about?

Season 1 of Monsieur Spade is set entirely in the town of Bozouls in France. The detective had first arrived in the quaint town to drop off Teresa, the young daughter of con artist Brigid O’Shaughnessy. However, when Audrey, Brigid’s mother-in-law, refuses to take her and Philippe, Teresa’s father, is absent, Spade drops her off at the local convent.

Spade’s fortune turns as he meets and falls in love with Gabrielle, a local vineyard owner. The main plot takes place after several years in 1963 when six nuns at the convent are murdered by a madman. The case involves all major stakeholders in the town and sets into motion a wretched plot, at the centre of which hides a potential spiritual Messiah.

As the series progresses, we see our characters face numerous dangerous situations. Many histories and tragedies unravel to give the show its emotional core. The nature of the storytelling assumes a darker undertone as we go forward and the mystery becomes more elusive.

Has Monsieur Spade been renewed for Season 2?

At the time of writing this piece, Monsieur Spade has neither been renewed nor been cancelled at AMC for a second season. Given the positive reception of the show, this may well be set to change in the coming months.

Generally, AMC, like other streamers and network cables, gauges numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly (ala. Only Murders in the Building, Dark Winds etc.) Other times, it can take months before streamers decide a show’s future.

Season 1 of Monsieur Spade has received critical acclaim and managed impressive numbers for the network carriers internationally. Creators Scott Frank and Tom Fontana have brought all their experience and creative dexterity to the fore in producing a wholly unique detective broiler. However, the show’s future remains uncertain.

It was originally billed as a limited series. Largely, such projects do not get carried over for more seasons. However, when the impact is large, as was the case with Big Little Lies, networks are tempted to have another go. While we aren’t too optimistic, we cannot rule out the chance that Monsieur Spade will be renewed. We will update this page as more information is available.

What do we know about Season 2 so far:

Not much is known about Monsieur Spade Season 2 as AMC has not officially renewed the show. However, if that does happen, we can expect the new instalment to continue from where the first one left off.

Teresa and Spade both realized that the chances of them being related were far greater than what they had anticipated. This gives the relationship a new dynamic that might be explored in a potential second season.

That is all the information we have for our readers at this point. If we get a renewal, expect the new season to come out sometime in 2026…or maybe even later. More to come on this in the coming weeks.

  1. Season one of Spade was an unexpected gem. Not going forward with a second season would be a stupid. Missed chances abound in the entertainment industry these days. Rubbish gets a 10 season run while quality entertainment such as this is relegated to oblivion.
I would hope that some trash catering to the lowest common denominator does not sabotage the chances of this refreshing show.
It would be nice for once to have something to watch that we can look forward to.
Instead of sifting through drivel looking for the least painful experience.
Then saying to ourselves, blah, why bother.

  2. Please AMC renew Monsieur Spade for a second season go around.
I reside overseas and stream the program, and honestly if it wasn’t for this cool, sophisticated noir-ish series and Clive Owens presentation, I would probably be watching only DVDs from my vast collection. But this series is really worth it.
    Please!

  3. It would be a pity if this show does not have another season for viewers who crave to have more sophisticated, clever , thought provoking television. What will it take to have another turn for quality shows like this to continue ?

  4. Definitely rates a second season. The story line was unique and richly “film noir” addicting. All the cinematic moving parts to a successful result were all front and center. Picking the right actors and letting them bring the really good script alive was spot on and earns production and direction their deserved accolades. Not easy, ever, to earn international critical acclaim. They have done it. Spending that built up “cred” wisely is their challenge. For season 2, we can watch Teresa and Sam grow closer as well as their similar personalities develop in full view. We need a new plot that stumps even confuses the local law enforcement because of the nature of the complicated crime. Reluctantly they ask Monsieur Spade for help, initially, he declines (of course) but eventually agrees. Upon review of the existing facts, Sam finds the case similar to something from his nearly forgotten past that he just can’t put his finger on!
