With Thai BLs (boy love) taking over our screens, we are getting more and more queer representation. Well, Gap: The Series can very well be considered the first mainstream GL (girl love) show. It gave us a spin on the usual office romance and the hurdles that the main leads have to go through to end up together. And with it being in the works since pretty much 2021, it feels that the show ended way too soon.

Well, after finishing the whole of season 1, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Here’s what we know:

What is Gap: The Series about?

With Sam having saved Mon several times and helping her out when they were kids, Mon starts idolising Sam to the extent of joining the same university, following her singing career and joining her start-up company. But what she was not ready for was that Sam who is now her boss is not the same kind-hearted child she knew. Pretty much an ice princess, her hot and cold attitude has Mon confused. 

But as time passes by, they start getting close once again and falling for each other. The only catch – Sam is engaged to Kirk, a man of her Grandmother’s wishes. She has been given a time of 5 years and if she fails to make her company a success, she will have to close the company and marry Kirk, putting a lot at stake.

Has Gap: The Series been renewed for season 2?

At the time of writing, Gap: The Series has not been renewed for a second season. 

Mainstream Thai dramas don’t usually get a sequel unless they are cable network soaps. But not all hope is lost. Following a show’s success, including those with LGBT+ themes, we have been getting sequels like 2gether, Tharntype, The Gifted and Girl from Nowhere.

Moreover, back in November 2022, Gap: The Series’ director had often shared on social media that the cast and crew are open to the idea of a season 2. If it is a success, they will be able to get a second season greenlit. However, we are getting a new show with the leads Freen and Becky as announced by executive producer Saint.

What we know about season 2 so far:

If we do get a season 2, it could follow the novel it is based on. It could also break away from the source material if the writers want to create a new story based on season 1. We would love to see more of the side characters like Cher and Risa, Sam’s friends and the relationship between Tee and Yuki as we are all pretty sure that there is something going on between them.

Of course, we would love to see the next step in Sam and Mon’s relationship as a married couple and the new obstacles they may face and how they will go about handling them. Season 1 was full of tears and heartbreak and we hope for a season 2 story that would go easy on them.

  4. The production team of The GAP said there would be no season 2. But there will be a new project for Freen and Becky. There are many GL novels in Thailand. Good stories.

  7. I love the show and could not wait for the next episode. The main characters had so much chemistry, just fell inlove with them. Loved all the characters and humour brought into the show. Please give us a second season. Much love all the way from South Africa. Love the cleaning lady 😂
