Has Based on a True Story been renewed for Season 2? Here’s what we know:

Renewed Or Cancelled?

Based on a True Story is yet another compelling dark comedy from Peacock. Kaley Cuoco, Chriss Messina, and Tom Bateman star as the central trio working on an explosive true-crime podcast about the Westside Ripper. After finishing all 8 episodes, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Here’s what we know:

What is City on Fire about?

Ava and Nathan Bartlett are on the verge of bankruptcy. They are totally broke and Ava is pregnant as well. Desperate for a lifeline, the duo gets a gift that land right on their laps. But it is not as innocuous and generous as it seems. Through some digging, Ava is able to establish that Matt, their new plumber, is the Westside Ripper. She is herself a fan of true-crime podcasts and believes that if they can get Matt to talk about his crimes on air, it could save their marriage and house.

Has Based on a True Story been renewed for season 2?

At the time of writing, Peacock has renewed Based on a True Story for season 2. Given Peacock’s track record for renewing a lot of its shows, that’s perhaps not actually too much of a shock.

Generally, Peacock and other streamers gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly (ala. Squid Game, Bridgerton & Shantaram) Other times, it can take months before a decision over a show’s future is made.

Based on a True Story has had a very promising reaction from critics and audiences. The show has perfectly tapped into a growing catalogue of shows about true crime in a comedic and ironic vein. The light-hearted elements and unexpected plot twists in Based on a True Story have ensured the show has been given the best possible chance to get a renewal.

What we know about season 2 so far:

Barely anything is known about season 2 at this point as Peacock has only just confirmed a renewal for this one.

Even though Ava and Nathan thought that they were in the clear for everything, a familiar face caught them red-handed at the end of season 1. Makers will definitely be tempted to use him as part of the podcast for season 2 when that happens. For now though, we’re safe in the knowledge that this one will definitely be returning in the near future. Fingers crossed that means we’ll get lots more drama!

  1. I just binged watched this show with my husband and I wish there were 10 more seasons, I’m going to tell everyone about this show, I literally watched it all night it’s 4:55am lol so please do a second season. I love it and my girl Kaley cuoco is amazing in this show. Please bring it back. Don’t take it away from peacock fans. I will never watch anything on peacock again I swear it.

  2. Love love love this show and I don’t like many! Laughed so hard! Cannot wait to see what what happens

  3. I absolutely loved the show! Such a different approach….I didn’t want it to end. Very well done! I look forward to more!

  4. Very funny. What a cliffhanger. Please we need season 2. Watched all the episodes very quickly.

  5. I’m gonna be mad at peacock, u just can’t get ppl into a show and just drop it! Don’t do a soprano!! Ppl hated that! Just not right! To do this! Trust will be loss in following thru , if peacock is know for this behavior. I will stop watching there shows.

  6. Want more!!! Can’t leave it where it ended!! I too watched the entire season in one night and loved every second! Bring it back please!!!!!

  7. I really enjoyed the show, but I hated the way the finale ended. You can’t do that to people! You have to wrap it up a bit. That left it hanging a bit too much. There better be a Season 2! And 3, 4, 5…

Also don’t have it come out 3 years from now when no one remembers the first season. I hate when shows do that too!

  8. It was addicting. I watched in one night. Reminded me of Ozarks meets Murders in the Building. love!

  9. Totally loved this show. Definitely want more. It was touted as ‘your next new tv obsession’ and it is! Casting is amazing.
