Queen of Tears – K-drama Episode 15 Recap & Review

Episode 15

Episode 15 of Queen of Tears begins with Eun-seong constructing a story of how Hyun-woo is a murderer and a stalker. Moreover, while Hae-in was unconscious, he found her diary, read it and burnt it before throwing it out in the garbage. He tells Hae-in that Hyun-woo stalked her for a share of her inheritance after he cheated on her, due to which she attempted suicide once already.

When the pair get back to Korea, Hae-in’s family are ready to meet her but Hae-in is distant. Eun-seong selectively told her about how her mother sued her and her brother carried a talisman to neutralise her energy. Hae-in is completely under Eun-seong’s control and she doesn’t believe anybody else. On top of this, Eun-seong is planning to marry Hae-in and Hae-in agrees since she believes that she agreed for it before her memories were wiped out.

When Eun-seong and Hae-in get back home, Eun-seong reveals to his mother that he has the recording of when she drugged the chairman and threatens her to leave Hae-in alone. Meanwhile, Hae-in is surprised to find all her cabinets empty. She does find the mp3 player in Hyun-woo’s room and feels curious about him since she thinks they have the same taste in music.

Acting upon this curiosity, Hae-in visits Hyun-woo in prison. However, no matter Hyun-woo says, Hae-in refuses to believe him. When she returns home, Eun-seong is frantic at her absence but even though she’s lost her memories, Hae-in is still Hae-in. She flatly tells him that she doesn’t appreciate his involvement without her permission. This is when Eun-seong installs a tracking device onto her car to keep an eye on her.

When Hae-in visits the office, she meets her old secretary Ms. Na. Even though secretary Na is in a different department, Hae-in decides to have her around. Meanwhile, at Hyun-woo’s trial, he’s acquitted based on CCTV footage of the real murderer, who is later arrested. Hae-in begins to stalk Hyun-woo, keeping a diary of his whereabouts and finds that he has a loving and warm relationship with his family.

At the same time, Hyun-woo returns to Yongdu-ri and his family throws him a huge welcome. Beom-ja visits Yongdu-ri as a chief sponsor of Hyun-woo’s prison release celebration. But secretly, all her efforts are directed towards Young Song. She cheats and makes Young Song the winner of the grand prize but since he’s a minimalist, he gifts it to someone else. Beom-ja and Young Song come outside and Beom-ja confesses to him. Only, she still has her mic on and everybody is enjoying the free entertainment from inside the building.

At a high-executive meeting, Eun-seong is informed about Hyun-woo’s acquittal and that he’s requested to rejoin the company and they cannot legally refuse his refuse. At the same time, there’s an upcoming shareholder meeting where the agenda is to remove Eun-seong on charges of embezzlement. It seems that seul-hee sent financial documents to the shareholders. As Eun-seong sits on a shaky throne, he proceeds to use the slush fund money to buy a little over 4% shares of the Queens group to strengthen his position.

News reaches Hyun-woo and company about Eun-seong’s desperate attempts to keep the company to himself. Hyun-woo tells the rest that Da-hye has given him the evidence against Eun-seong for 2 trillion investment fraud. Meanwhile, Da-hye meets her ex-partner and gives him all the money that she has. They attempt to take Da-hye to Seul-hee but Soo-cheol employs everything he’s learnt from Baek Hyun-tae and manages to hold them until Hyun-tae arrives.

Meanwhile, Hae-in and Hyun-woo meet and Hae-in tells him that she feels uncomfortable in his presence. Later, when she returns home, she finds a package addressed to her but doesn’t open it. The next day, she receives an email invite from herself and ends up in the aquarium where Hyun-woo is waiting with the same invite.

Their wedding video plays out and the employees gift a bouquet to Hyun-woo, telling him that it’s from Hae-in. Hae-in is terribly confused and Hyun-woo encourages her to doubt everything and stay clear of Eun-seong as he’s been manipulating and isolating her.

Hae-in returns home and visits Eun-seong. She observes that there’s no scar mark on his hand while she saw one on Hyun-woo’s hand. Later, she finally opens the package to find the barely burnt notebook. It’s revealed that the notebook was found by the hospital staff in Germany, who picked it up from the garbage can and posted it back to her.

Hae-in reads her letters to herself, reminding her about Hyun-woo and their relationship. She contacts Hyun-woo and leaves to meet him. Just when the two are about to cross the road, Hae-in disappears and Hyun-woo is hit by a car.

In the epilogue, it’s revealed that Hae-in’s father hired detectives to keep an eye on Hae-in in Germany, who conveys that from all her investigation, it seems Eun-seong has an unrequited love and he’s a danger to everyone. It’s also revealed that it might be Eun-seong who had hit Hyun-woo in a fit of rage.

The Episode Review

Episode 15 of the Queen of Tears, even though quite enjoyable, needs a massive dose of suspension of belief. The show did use many clichés throughout its plot but in this episode, the plot felt unnecessarily stretched and completely illogical. Consider the plot where Eun-seong tosses the diary in fire, the diary survives fire, gets tossed into a garbage bin, and a random hospital staff decides to take a diary out of the bin to send it to Hae-in?!

On top of that, was it unnecessary for yet another accident in the penultimate episode of the series?  Apart from this, and Hae-in and Hyun-woo’s to and fro was painfully tiresome in this episode because we have seen this plot a number of times in a single show now. The only respite were the brief moments of comedy and the scenes involving Yongdu-ri residents and other characters.

  1. Hi Sam, thanks for your comment! You are right and I loved reading your perspective. To clarify, I had written the episode review right after episode 15 was released without the knowledge of what happens in episode 16. At the time, episode 16 had not aired. since it is not a full season review, we tend to focus on how a single episode of a show pans out. A more detailed review is the full season review where we take a holistic perspective of the entire show and all events and reasonings. I hope that explained my take on the episode.

  2. Hey Prachie, I read the review and yeah there were some points u missed out on. The diary did not burn because it started raining and then snowing so yeah not really illogical. The diary was orchestrated by Yangi as he notified the hospital and had grace place it on the table for hae-in to look at. While episode 15 had its flaws some of the logic was evident when watching episode 16. And your complaint about the chemistry while understandable, you need to understand she lost her memory and with partial influence from eun song she does not trust hyun woo so ofc she is going to argue with him thats the point. Some flaws to point out tho would be the second lead drama which was not really needed but I guess satisfying. The car accident was not necessary as hae-in being kidnapped was good enough. But the writer is known to bring some classice tropes and cliches back she has done this for legend of the blue sea and crash landing on you. The plot was predictable up until eun song’s death I mean I do not think anyone expected him to die. But other than that ep 15 was probably the worst episode in terms if a penultimate episode.

  3. A small trivial : in Ep 15, Hae In’s father hired a detective team comprising of one lady and two sidekicks wearing red and blue tracksuits. The three characters were transported from ‘My Love from the Stars’ previously best friend and acquaintances of Cheon Song Yi (lead actress). Same scriptwriter.
